The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) was this weekend (April 26-28) and the C2E2 2024 Friday cosplay was fantastic.

Even though Friday was plenty busy, it was a good day to walk the floor, get to know the layout, and scope out any potential purchases. This was when the wider aisles of Artist Alley came particularly in handy – you could stop for the occasional cosplay photos without causing a total traffic jam.

Friday night was C2E2’s Inaugural Prom, held on the Main Stage after the show floor closed for the day. Many, myself and my friends included, changed from whatever they’d been wearing that day into something more fitting to the event’s fantasy theme. Some went pure fantasy, while other gave a more elegant twist to cosplay. My friends and I decided to give it a show, not knowing what to expect.

From outside the room we could already hear the loud DJ music. Inside, it was quite dark with strobing lights. The front half of the room was a large dance floor with the DJ up on stage. The back half had chairs for those who may prefer to sit and watch, and large screen showing a live shot of the dance floor. There were a few photo backdrops such as a cut-out of a castle, a stained glass window, and a black backdrop with gold balloons that said, “C2E2 2024 Prom”. There were also a few tables with snacks and drinks available for purchase.

My friends and I weren’t quite sure what we had expected, but we quickly determined this wasn’t our scene. We stuck around for a few songs, then ducked into the lobby where we were able to admire the outfits of other attendees and talk with friends. A few friends I talked to over the rest of the weekend said they enjoyed the Prom, including those with younger children. Suffice it to say, it seems like this new event was success, if not exactly marketed accurately. It was definitely geared towards a certain audience, but I don’t think myself and the friends I attended with were it.

Rate the Con

Our new thing for 2024 is to ask our readers to take a poll on some basic components of the con. We want to know how you rate the parking, the vendors and the food. The poll closes after 30 days and we will use this as a baseline for next years convention. We hope to eventually have a rating system set up for many of the conventions.

We realize that these don’t apply to all conventions, so if they don’t apply to your con, give them a 5 star.

**Later additions to the rating systems will include things such as guests and ticket prices**

As you no doubt saw in our previous articles, the cosplayers certainly did not disappoint on Friday. Whether it was a popular superhero, a clever pun, a musical group, or a long-time favorite, everyone I came across was happy to show their passion for their character choice that day.
