When we last saw Thor at the end of Avengers: Endgame, the Asgardian hero had decided to hand over the reigns of leadership to Valkyrie in favor of heading off into the galaxy with Star Lord and the other Guardians (Asgardians) of the Galaxy. An this official teaser for Thor: Love and Thunder seems to pick up more or less where we left off, with the god on a journey of inner peace having retired from being a superhero.
But with Thor being retired, will someone else take up that mantle? We see the answer to that at the very end of the teaser, where we get our first look of Jane Foster’s Thor, played by Natalie Portman. From the small tease we get, her look is heavily influenced by her comics look in Jason Aaron’s THOR, and I am very impressed.
Here is the film’s official synopsis:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
The movie stars, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, and Bradley Cooper.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be in theaters July 8.
