PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Redlands #2

Writing:

Jordie Bellaire returns to Redlands with issue 2 and kicks the plot into high gear in the modern age. The three female leads show themselves to be capable of great things, but there is darkness within the story too, darkness that only leads to more questions and will bring current and new readers back for the third round. Not to mention her colors for this issue, readers will note there’s a lot of red, and not just on the cover too. It’s all part of the plot, and that’s all to be said about it.

Art:

Vanesa R. Del Rey’s art brings the Redlands world into the 21st century and into a stark focus as readers meet the three ladies who are the books main players. The art does a great job of fleshing out each one of them, no one member of the little triumvirate stands above the rest.

Clayton Cowles’ lettering takes a new leap as it gives substance to Jordie’s writing/colors and Vanesa’s art. Each person encountered this issue is their own individual thanks in part to his lettering. Readers can hear their voices, their personalities in the dialogue and feel that they are as real as real can be.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

This second issue doesn’t stop at the door, it kicks in the door and brings the leading ladies right into the reader’s face with a mystery that seems to challenge their power base in Redlands. Get ready for some Law and Order-style detective work here, mixed with magic and murder. Nothing will turn people away, they only get drawn in as the tale keeps unfolding.

PopCultHQ’s Rating:

5 Out of 5 Stars
