DC’s “Rebirth” Revealed – Get Your First Look At The Creative Teams, Titles & Images

DC Comics was on hand at WonderCon 2016 this weekend and they hosted a special livestream event Saturday afternoon to unveil the creative teams behind the upcoming DC Rebirth event. Rumored for the last month or so, this even will relaunch the entire DC Universe line of titles with new issue #1’s and will include their core titles beginning to ship twice a month. Oh, and all titles will now have a cover price of $2.99.

The WonderCon panel included DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, and co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee. The trio seem very excited and pumped as to how Rebirth will play out and its impact for the future of DC Comics. “At the end of the day, Dan and I are comic book people,” Lee said. “This is what we live and breathe. The comics are the source material for what you’re seeing in other media. We’ve got to keep that vibrant and exciting, and that’s what Rebirth is about.”

But why Rebirth? And why now? “Sometimes what happens, and you can feel it now, you lose your way a little bit,” DiDio told the crowd. “The hope is to show our recommitment to you, the fans.” DiDio had previously given a rudimentary definition of what Rebirth is all about at the ComicsPro event in February:

“At DC we believe in superheroes, and what makes them great,” said Dan DiDio, co-publisher of DC Entertainment. “And, we also believe in the direct market and the core comics fan. REBIRTH is designed to bring back the best of DC’s past, embrace the stories we currently love and move the entire epic universe into the future. We are returning to the essence of the DCU. With REBIRTH we are putting the highest priority on the direct market and we will continue to create and cultivate new opportunities for retailers to thrive and prosper, grow readers, fans and customers.”

Geoff Johns addressed those in attendance at this weekend’s convention regarding Rebirth. “When you say ‘relaunch,’ ‘reboot,’ I get skeptical as a comics fan — but I also get hopeful when I know what it’s all about,” Johns stated. “Rebirth is not a reboot… but bringing back everything that’s wonderful about these characters.”

One of the exciting changes happening this summer is two of DC’s longest running titles are returning. Action Comics and Detective Comics will resume their issue number from where they left off (#957 for Action and #934 for Detective). These titles may just reach issue 1000!
