Halloween is approaching quicker than you realize and you need to come up with a fast, quick and easy costume. We’ve compiled some great costumes that you might be able to toss together just from your closet.

We have previously covered Wolverine (with some do-it-yourself claws), the many faces of Doctor Who and The Doctors companions. Now we give you the Minions from Despicable Me.

Basic Requirements:

• Denim Overalls
• Black Gloves
• Black shoes
• Yellow Shirt
• Yellow Hat (any yellow hat will work)
• Goggles (we’ll show you how to make these)

Overalls

If you already have a pair of overalls or coveralls in the closet then you are set, even if they aren’t denim or blue then it doesn’t really matter, most people will still ‘get’ the costume. You can quite often find a cheap pair at your local thrift store, but if you can’t find a pair, don’t worry…we have some alternatives for you later.

On the center of the bib, you need to put this symbol;

Most people in a hurry use black sharpie, I’ve also seen it printed out and taped or glued on. I have even seen someone create it out of black tape. However you wish to do it, after all it is your costume.

Black Gloves

Almost any pair of dark gloves will do. I’m not sure about you but I have a huge stash of those lightweight knit stretch gloves in a various colors that I pick up really cheap at the end of each winter. If you don’t have a pair already, you can probably find them in the stores now.

Black Shoes

Shoes or boots work, just make sure they are comfortable.

Yellow Shirt

Banana yellow is the preferred color, but any yellow should do as long as the hat and shirt match. It’s probably better to go with a long sleeve shirt, but any yellow shirt will work in a pinch.

Yellow Hat

Beanies, toques, stocking caps, baseball caps – there are a lot of choices for head gear. So pick what works for you. If you want hair then put some black wool or pipe cleaners through the top.

Goggles

This is the key part of your minion costume and a we found a few fantastic and easy tutorials;

Just add some white paper behind the circles and draw a black dot for the eyeball.

The Alternatives

Now that you have the basics down, let me point out that minions don’t always wear coveralls.

They LOVE to dress up.

 

So go wild. Make your goggles and get a yellow shirt, yellow hat or even a yellow hoodie and have fun.

AND if you can’t find yellow, there is always purple.
