Summer is a time of many great things for the pop culture/nerd community. Many blockbuster movies, be they superhero or otherwise, hit the big screen, lots of landmark events for comics and video games happen too. Then there is the biggest draw of all, conventions. Those fantastic times of the year when people flock to major cities across the United States, across the world even, dress up in costumes of their favorite characters and are given the opportunity to shop till they drop for merchandise, comics, tour Artist Alleys to meet comic book artists and writers, and best of all, get the chance to meet some of their favorite celebrities from movies, TV shows etc.
The 19th annual Wizard World Chicago (being held as always at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois) runs August 25th-27th. As with every Wizard World convention, and in particular Chicago, it promises to be another great year for fans of all ages who will get opportunities to meet a particularly stellar lineup of stars.
Like previous Wizard World Chicago events, there has been no limit set on bringing in big-name pop culture actors and actresses to the Windy City. Doctor Who actor David Tennant will be there alongside his co-stars Alex Kingston and John Barrowman, as well as Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Michael Rooker, and Elizabeth Henstridge, KISS co-founder Gene Simmons, the list goes on and on.
A particular person of interest this year is none other then Kevin Conroy. Yes Kevin Conroy, celebrated voice actor and the man who has been bringing Batman to life for fans everywhere since 1992.
Kevin has made his mark on the Batman mythos by voicing the Dark Knight not just in the classic 90’s series, but also in Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Static Shock among other DC animated series, a variety of DC Animated Original Movies, and provided the voice for several of the Batman: Arkham video games. His total list of credits giving Batman a voice goes on and on, thus making him the longest running actor to portray the character in either animation or live action.
This year marks a very special year for Batman fans and Wizard World convention goers across the nation, because Kevin and his ‘Batman The Animated Series’ co-star Loren Lester (voice of Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing) have been and will continue to be attending Wizard World shows to celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘Batman The Animated Series’. So far they have appeared at the conventions in Portland, Oregon and Cleveland, Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri and will be continuing to make appearances in the coming months.
