We’ve all heard about the doomsday vaults. There is the seed vault to preserve plant life, the DNA Vault for human life, and the Frozen Zoo for animal life.
There is a new vault dedicated to the preservation of a precious resource, the OREO Vault.
The Global OREO Vault project was supposedly kicked off by a question asked by a cookie fan in response to the “Election Day” Asteroid, “If the Election Day asteroid reaches Earth, who will save the OREOs?”
OREO decided to answer that question.
In an epic PR stunt, OREO released a video that shows us their new vault, which is located on permafrost at 78°08’58.1″N, 16°01’59.7″E, just a short distance from the Svalbard Global Seed Vault.
Per OREO, “As an added precaution, the OREO packs are wrapped in mylar, which can withstand temperatures from -80 degrees to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and is impervious to chemical reactions, moisture and air, keeping the cookies fresh and protected for years to come”
The “Election Day” asteroid, labeled 2018VP1 is projected to come close to Earth on November 2, according to the Center for Near Earth Objects Studies at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. It was first identified at Palomar Observatory in California in 2018.
