PopCultHQ made an appearance for a couple of days at this year’s 50th Annual Comic Con International: San Diego 2019. When we first heard we would be on-hand at the granddaddy of all comic conventions, we broke the news online that PopCultHQ would be in the house! Shortly after our announcement, I received a DM from a comic creator asking if I’d be interested in interviewing him and his co-creator at the show. When I saw who it was and the book in which they were promoting (issue one had released about 2 weeks prior), the choice was immediate – oh hell yeah, I wanted this interview! That being said, one of the most enjoyable interviews I had the privilege to conduct was with the creators of CANTO, writer David M. Booher (Alien Bounty Hunter, Powerless) and artist Drew Zucker (The House), to discuss their series at IDW Publishing.
An all-ages fable inspired by Wizard of Oz and Dante’s Inferno, CANTO is part fantasy, part adventure. But at its core, it’s all heart. Co-created by Booher & Zucker, the six-issue miniseries was a sensation from its initial debut. Along with colorist Vittorio Astone and letterer Deron Bennett, the team has put together something special, something magical with this all-ages title. Fans are most certainly in agreement, as issue one sold out, which meant a second printing for the premiere issue. But it didn’t stop there…the second printing ALSO sold out! IDW rushed the book back for a third printing! The response was overwhelming and there was a rush of excitement from fans wanting to tag along in this journey of the little tin man. I, personally, wanted to take this trip as well, which made the interview opportunity with Drew and David offered to PopCultHQ a no-brainer. The only thing hotter than the weather at SDCC this year was these two and their brilliant work of art.
#MailCall Shout-out to @PAcollectibles for the SAH-WEET! @Drew_Zucker exclusive variant of @IDWPublishing‘s #CANTO #1! Just. Beautiful.
