“Pants Optional” is PopCultHQ’s Zoom video interview feature where we connect with individuals within the comic book community. It’s a way to see/hear what creators have been doing during the pandemic, projects which may be in motion during this downtime, and noteworthy events and happenings taking place in lieu of conventions, appearances, and the weekly NCBD grind.
For Episode XXVII, I spoke with MONSTER MATADOR: Tango of the Matadors #3’s creator/writer Steven Prince, illustrator Fábio Alves, and colorist Alex Zief. We also were joined by Fábio’s good pal and co-collaborator Rylend Grant, as the duo (along with Edson Ferreira & HdE) have their campaign for the second issue of THE JUMP currently running on Kickstarter.
An interview spanning three countries and two continents, the California-based writers (Prince & Grant) joined the Monster Matador colorist from Mexico (Zief) and the Brazillian illustrator (Alves) along with his translator. We had a fun discussion about the final issue of the “Tango of the Matadors” miniseries. Take a look at the preview for this epic finale, which is running now through May 6th on Kickstarter.

Monster Matador is a delightfully demented Kaiju throw-down that follows Matador Ramon Alejandro Estévez Guerrero as he travels a post-apolcalyptic future to fight monsters and and make a better world for his daughter.
Monster Matador: Tango of the Matadors #3 wraps up the acclaimed mini-series with a 31 page action-packed issue printed on glossy paper between a cardstock cover.
