Dragon Con 2022 – Reptiles Random Review

Welcome back! This time I’m covering Dragon Con 2022.

This was my second year attending Dragon Con and it just seems to get better each time. Dragon Con did allow more tickets to be sold than they had in 2021, but not to full capacity due to COVID still being a thing. Even then, there were still lot of people enjoying this yearly Mardi Gras for cosplayers and pop culture fans. All the hotels seemed to be buzzing with the sounds of laughter and greetings of old and new friends.

Let me start this with what seemed to be the low points for this reporter. Besides the normal Atlanta weather, we got rain off and on for 2 of the days. This ended a few photo shoots and also kept some people from bringing out their higher-end cosplays. The “Dealer Hall,” or merchant hall line, had line con in full swing. I had attempted to get in on Sunday, but the line was so long that it wrapped around the block twice and snaked through the parking garage before you could get in. Maybe Dragon Con should consider an express pass, time reservations, or some sort of system that allows people to book a time they could show up and go in. I mean, who wants to spend the majority of their day in a line when there is so much fun to be had?

I feel one of the high points, for anyone who is a celebrity fan, is Dragon Con’s Walk of Fame. Out of all the cons I’ve been to this seems to have the easiest access to the celebs and the shortest lines. When I did the walk, many of them were just waiting for fans to come up and chat. Even if you didn’t want an autograph and you just wanted to see the celebrity in-person. you can walk right through and wave at them as you go by. Dragon Con doesn’t hide them behind a curtain or a wall. Beware though, sniping a picture will get you tossed out. If you want a picture with a celebrity, do it right and pay for it with the full permission of the celebrity. During our walking tour, our little group chanted and cheered for Flash actor Sam Jones. He was so impressed with our cosplay group, he said that we deserved a photo. He then came out and took a photo with all of us.

As any of the vetted Dragon Con-goers know, the fun does not stop after the sun goes down. There is always a party going on much like there is always gambling in Vegas. The Bunny Hutch party is always a big thing to do. It is on Thursday night and everything is a Playboy Bunny-themed madness and dance party.

For me, I always enjoy hitting the Marriott floor and checking out the huge party going on there. It’s a massive room filled with a ton of people enjoying themselves. If you go, watch for DJ Kirby who likes to set up in the back of the room after 8 pm. He brings his own bump box and plays some great beats. There is always a crowd in that corner dancing and having a great time and it’s just a short walk back to the bar. I feel there should maybe be a DJ Kirby Cult started. I mean, why not? Dragon Con has cults for many other things.

My only other thought for Dragon Con is; Can we make it a full week? Hmm… can anyone make it a full week of Dragon Con if it was? But I digress.

For me, Dragon Con – keep up the great job and maybe see if there is some way to streamline the line for the entrance to the dealer hall.

I give Dragon Con 2022 – 4.5 stars out of 5.
