PopCultHQ Comic Book Review – Delete #1 From Devil’s Due/1First Comics

Harley Quinn series creators Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner have joined Justin Gray and John Timms for a new series from Devil’s Due/1First Comics publishing.  Coming in March is Delete, written by Palmiotti and Gray, drawn by Timms, and featuring covers by Conner.

The issue begins with a nervous couple and their daughter frantically returning to their apartment for a brief stop before fleeing.  They observe that someone has visited them by placing a post-it note on their computer.  Within seconds, an explosion is set off, followed by their place bombarded with militia firing upon the family.

Yalena’s husband, in an effort to protect his family, sacrifices himself by igniting the propane gas-filled air and blowing up the intruders.  Yalena herself attacks one of the armed intruders but has been hit by shots from the semi-automatic weapons.  Clutching onto her life, she struggles to get her mute daughter, Kalina, to safety in the apartment’s hallway.  As she collapses, the apartment handyman, Spencer, rushes to her aid and tries to keep her from dying.  Yalena accepts that death is imminent, and in her last words she pleads to Spencer to protect her daughter at all costs.  Spencer grants her dying wish and swears to protect the young girl.

Granted, PopCultHQ only received an 8-page preview of Delete, but just from the beginning pages, it’s compelling start leaves us yearning for more.  The way it starts off in a frantic mystery surrounding the characters to its immediate in-your-face, high intensity action, Delete promises to be a fast-paced, action-filled chase of survival that will make for a fantastic series.
