Whatever Happened To The Archetype! by Insane Comics: PopCultHQ Comic Book Review Spotlight

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE ARCHETYPE! Writer – Stu Perrins
 Art – Ron Gravelle
Color Cover – Shaun Dobie What if a super-man had crashed landed on our planet many decades ago, lived the life of the icon hero and was unceremoniously discarded into the stories of legends past? A legend that was so long ago that he is barely remembered at all, considered perhaps by many as just a myth or fable? What if, before that super-man was to come to our planet, he had gone through some very REAL emotional losses and sadness? If he were to have a troubled history,

PopCultHQ Comic Book Review – “Chess-Masters” #1 From Insane Comics

The Chess-Masters are a team of superheroes from the 25th century created by the government to combat evil forces and fight oppressiveness.  Though society has become more civilized, with no more wars, famine, illness, or racial hatred, the team was assembled for the handful of individuals set on world domination.  Each member, named after a chess piece, possesses powers (illusory spells, telepathic sonic emissions, etc.) some of which have yet to be fully revealed.  The team is transported through a rift in the space-time continuum back to the 21st century by the evil Pawn-Master and immediately face a threat from

Sadistic #1 From Insane Comics: PopCultHQ Comic Book Review

Sadistic #1 Written by: Kelly Bender Pencils: Bryant Yini Inks: John Dixon Colored by: Kari Kaiju Lettered by: Alex Giles Sadistic is just what the title entails; it is a downright sadistic look of a super villain so vile, so disturbing, that the creators wouldn’t have it any other way. One of the more popular titles from Insane Comics, Sadistic is a nod back to the ground roots of independent comic book making. It’s not a polished cookie-cutter superhero comic you would expect from the big two. This is a labor of love from a group of creators looking to have some insanely sick fun.

PopCultHQ Comic Book Review – “Convoy of Corpses” #1 From Insane Comics

“Convoy of Corpses” is set in Kandahar, Afghanistan three years prior to the death of Osama Bin Laden.  The U.S. military base “Eagle’s Nest” is playing host to some correspondents from the BBC covering the war in nearby Naw Abad.  Unpleased by the notion of having to cater to the journalists, the commander lays down his strict ground rules of their compliance to heed the orders of his men. The reporters are partnered with Captain Petrie, who refers to his team of soldiers as “a convoy of corpses traveling on Hell’s highway,”  a title appropriately given as there are

PopCultHQ Comic Book Review – “American Bison” #1 From Insane Comics

In reading and reviewing American Bison #1 from Insane Comics, I wasn’t really sure what to expect.  What I got was a fascinating story, an interesting time-period piece, and delightful artwork.  Set in the Utah Territory in 1853, the tale depicts a time of growth, expansion, the gold rush, and the struggling Native Americans holding on to their land.  The Arapaho tribe is seeing their food reserves deplete and the number of bison in the land has also diminished. Little Horn and young Nakos encounter a bison standing on his hind legs brutally attacking a member of the tribe.  This speaking beast

Hollow Girl #1 – From Insane Comics: PopCultHQ Comic Book Review

Hollow Girl #1 (MR) Written by: Luke Cooper Art and Cover by: Luke Cooper Let’s start off with a bit of back story for Hollow Girl. A comic created and illustrated by Luke Cooper, who was almost at his last straw of trying to break this story into publishing. After getting rejected over and over again, Luke reached out to Insane Comics and James C. Munch took that chance on this very risky story. A gritty look at the ugly realities of the world and a girl with no soul who is wearing an emotionless mask, takes to the streets in the

Alien Hand Syndrome #1 from Insane Comics takes us on a wild sci-fi, space adventure.  The anthropomorphic characters are led by Tofu, who finds himself in a precarious position.  Upon encountering an Reticulan craft, the crew’s captain makes a decision to ram their saucer into the enemy’s starship.  Though the collision was a success for the crew, it left their vessel depleted of necessary Elerium, a substance needed to be able to bend space and travel to their homeworld K’bbl.  The captain makes the call to land on a nearby planet to allow the ship to heal itself.  Doing so

Bust #1 – From Insane Comics: PopCultHQ Comic Book Review

Reading Bust takes me back to the good old underground independent days of comic books, with titles like Caliber Press’s The Crow from James O’ Barr or even the ultra horror comic book Faust by Tim Vigil from Avatar Press. While the black and white art in Bust may not be what the modern fans likes to see from a Marvel or DC type comic book, the heart of an independent passion is what clearly shines through. Bust describes itself as a mix of Fight Club meets Mad Max, I would more liken this comic to a mix between Gladiator, Escape from L.A. and
