Ghost in the Shell Anime Movie to be Released in June

Ghost in the Shell, or at least the Manga, is over 25 years old and it have been 20 years since the movie adaption by Oshii Mamoru. Apparently in celebration of the 20 year anniversary we are getting a new movie. No, it’s not the live action one we have been promise by Dreamworks, it is animated.

This one will be released to Japanese theaters in June and we can only assume that American theaters will see if shortly afterwards. The new anime is based on the Arise storyline, which wasn’t very popular with the fan base.

But this is probably also an attempt to pick up new fans in preparation for the live-action version that is supposed to be in production by Dreamworks, starring Scarlett Johansson. Release for the live action is scheduled in 2017, but other than Scarlett, there is no casting, so I wonder if this will go through or fall to the wayside.

In the meantime, check out the new promo video for the upcoming anime;
