Chicago Pop Culture Con was this past weekend at the Pheasant Run Convention Center. It was the convention’s third year. This is a smaller, more relaxed convention, but they still have a good variety of artists and vendors. One thing I really appreciated is that I didn’t see a single bath fitter, gutter cleaner, or hot pack vendor.
The one downfall to this convention was that the food selection was minimal and the food vendor ran out of most sandwiches shortly after lunch. As the crowds were a little bit thin, I really wonder what they would have done for a full house. Luckily, there is plenty of food within a short drive and you didn’t have to worry about parking.
This year’s special guests included Butch Patrick from The Munsters and two of the Ramones, CJ and Richie. I also got to see one of my favorite horror hosts Deadgar Winter of Deadgar’s Dark Coffin Classics and there was a great impersonator of another classic TV horror host, Son of Svengoolie. I couldn’t resist getting a photo of them together.
Cosplay at the event was on-point with a great variety from anime to TV hosts.
We even stuck around for the costume contests. Congratulations to the winners, I don’t envy the hard decisions the judges had to make.
To see what conventions are coming to your area next, keep an eye on the Cosplay and Convention List.
