This week’s Matchbox Makerspace interview was Yasu Tano of Hiro Creations, a company that specializes in 3-D printing and CNC.
Yasu started out in cosplay around 2017 and built two sets of fully 3-D printed power armor, one of which won third place at C2E2 Crown Championships. Two years later, he built a set of T-51 Power armor from Fallout, which got him into the finals at TwitchCon.
Being a relatively early adopter of 3d printing before it became a mainstream technique for cosplay, Yasu has done a variety of large and small costume builds that were entirely made of 3d printed elements including T-60 and T-51 Power Armors which won awards at several cosplay competitions.More recently Yasu has incorporated the skills and techniques he learned 3d printing costumes to business and launched several e-commerce companies that utilize the same efficient, agile production methods to produce and ship a large catalog of 3d printed products ranging from Miniatures to RV parts. Yasu also documents aspects of his medium-scale manufacturing journey with his youtube channel Hiro Creations.

It’s a great place to start a new business, or to grow an existing small business. It’s for the hobbyist with a crazy new idea, the moonlighting entrepreneur, or the professional office nomad. It’s for developers, designers, strategists, artisans, writers, makers, and change-makers of all types. It’s a home for the creative class in Lafayette, West Lafayette, and throughout the midwest.
