The celebrities on-tap for next year are amazing. Matt Smith of Doctor Who will be there to meet fans. Jason David Frank of Power Rangers fame is sure to get the blood pumping. And an anime character dub parade like no other, with Colleen Clinkenbeard, Josh Grelle, Brina Palencia and a host of others.
Three celebrities already lined up to appear are names familiar to many and beloved by Star Trek fans for generations: Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov), George Takei (Hikaru Sulu) and Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner.
Walter Koenig is a man who is memorable, period. As Ensign (later Commander) Pavel Chekov, Walter became a core member of Star Trek after first appearing in the second season premiere episode “Amok Time.” Since then, Walter has appeared in every original Star Trek film and at the start of the Star Trek: Generations movie. Other acting credits include the films Mad Cowgirl and Blue Dream, as well as multiple episodes of Babylon 5 as character Alfred Bester.
George Takei is a household name, known for both his work as an actor and activist. As an actor, he is known the world over for his role as Hikaru Sulu. Other best known roles for George include Master Sensei on the Disney cartoon Kim Possible, and Sam Kimura in the hit musical Allegiances. As an activist, George is a major proponent of LGBT rights and currently serves as the spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign “Coming Out Project.”
Last, and certainly not least, is William Shatner. Whether as Captain James T. Kirk, T.J. Hooker, or attorney Denny Crane, Shatner is a man whose face is literally everywhere. From Star Trek to the Priceline commercials, he is a public figure beloved by fans of the hit sci-fi franchise and his other projects. Highly memorable moments of Star Trek lore come from William, including his famous cry of ‘KHAN’ and the touching farewell scene between himself and Leonard Nimoy near the end of Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan.
All three amazing Star Trek veterans will be appearing for the duration of the con, February 28th-March 1st.
