While it may be cold in other parts of the country, there’s a warm front moving in Illinois. And even though spring is not yet quite sprung, it speaks of the promise of blue skies and sunny days when C2E2 rolls around.
One of the things that has always made C2E2 a great convention isn’t just the celebrity guests they bring in, or the cool merchandise you can buy online or on-site, or even all the cosplay and after-parties. It’s the talent they bring in. The writers and artists, men and women who have made the comics industry their business, their livelihood.
This year, C2E2 has brought one of the greatest team-ups ever to work in comics. Alone they are excellent, but together they are stupendous. They have time and again rocked the nerd world to its core. That’s right, it’s the dynamic duo of writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez.
Marv and George don’t truly need any introductions all their own. Both of these men have devoted their lives to comic books, and their work has stood the test of time. Their two greatest works together, New Teen Titans and Crisis on Infinite Earths, are standouts in the DC stable for multiple reasons. New Teen Titans introduced audiences to one of the most memorable iterations of the team, including noted members Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg. Not to mention villains like Deathstroke the Terminator, Brother Blood, Trigon, and more.
Crisis on Infinite Earths is a host unto itself. A 12-issue series that not only celebrated DC Comics 50th anniversary, but rocked the company’s creative core. Featuring thousands of heroes from across the DC Multiverse, it not only streamlined the company in terms of characters, but also featured two of the most shocking (though long since retracted) deaths in DC history. That of Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) and The Flash (Barry Allen).
Marv and George are truly sterling examples of creative genius in comics, and as previously stated, one of the finest team-ups of writer and artist still working today.
Both of them will be in Artist Alley for the full duration of the convention, March 22nd-March 24th. An important note is that George is formally retiring both from comics work this year, as well as the convention circuit. So if you are a die-hard fan of Wolfman/Perez, or just of George himself, make sure to be in attendance. This will be one of the last times fans will get to meet George before he takes his final bow at the end of 2019.
Make sure to pack those graphic novels, sharpen your comics knowledge, and get ready for excitement. There’s 44 days left until C2E2 is here, and if you want the chance to meet comic book professionals like George and Marv, don’t miss out.
