MATT WAGNER’s classic saga of comics fantasy continues in the third and final part of his epic MAGE trilogy. After encountering a rare and ominous mystical creature, Kevin Matchstick has enlisted black-market magic to obtain an enchanted potion that he hopes will help lead him to the Fisher King. Will his mystical quest lead to the fulfillment he so desperately seeks…or leave his family more vulnerable than ever? Can even the Pendragon stave off a siege from the Faerie Realms and the schemes of the malevolent Umbra Sprite? MAGE: THE HERO DENIED is a 15-issue limited series climaxing in a double-sized finale. Considered by many to be creator MATT WAGNER’s masterpiece, MAGE has been a perennial favorite with old and new readers alike for nearly three decades.

PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Mage: The Hero Denied #7

Writing:

Threads are being tied together for Kevin as writer Matt Wagner brings the pieces into play in the story. His script, as well as the art, speak for themselves. Both of these things bring to bear what will surely lead up to a smashing finale, the likes of which has not been seen before in any of Matt’s work. The clock is now ticking for Kevin Pendragon, and time will soon be running out.

Art:

Another smorgasbord of color from Brennan fills these pages. Especially with the coloring for a host of supernatural and mystical characters, many of them familiar to tried and true Mage fans. For newcomers, it will be a visual delight like the previous issues, and continue to draw them along as the story moves ahead.

Dave contributed more high quality lettering again. In particular with the letters for another huge monster, one whom will help give a cliffhanger ending with its words, practically an invitation for everyone to pick up issue #8 when it comes out. And that invitation is inscribed with the terrific work of Dave Lanphear.

PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:

There’s all manner of magical mystery and evil afoot. Kevin is in pursuit of the questing beast, and his enemies are pulling a noose tight that could threaten to choke both him and his beloved family. What steps will be taken? Only that can be revealed by getting the latest issue.

PopCultHQ’s Rating:

5 Out of 5 Stars
