Anime Central (ACen) returned to the Donald E. Stephens Conventions Center in Rosemont, Il over the weekend of May 19th through 22nd. ACen is the largest anime, manga and Japanese popular culture convention in Chicago and the Midwest.
Programming at ACen is always popular. This year our staff photographer, Dax Orr attended Oriana’s Drag Race.
Oriana’s Drag Race is a one-of-a-kind, 2 hour main stage event that is LGBTQIA+ inclusive! Oriana combines Drag and Cosplay to create a fun, upbeat, and unique show that is sure to thrill and delight you over and over. Drag Queen Oriana Perón welcomed five contestants to compete for this year’s title.
Oriana Perón is a cosplaying, costume, and fashion designing, drag queen. She has been cosplaying since 2006 when this nerdy hobby turned into a passionate career. Oriana has studied theatre and costume design at Indiana University and continues her studies with a focus on fashion design, metalsmithing, and jewelry. Oriana currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana and is a producer and host for her shows, “World of Fantasy” and “World of Gayming” at The Back Door. Her favorite thing is dressing up like cartoon moms and sending memes to all her friends. Oriana looks forward to conventions coming back and seeing all her friends and fans again!
