In 2017, we reviewed Darkarta: A Broken Heart’s Quest Collector’s Edition when it was released on Steam. Now it’s been released on Android and it’s just as good.
This isn’t your standard hidden object or match-3 game. It has a variety of puzzles: Spot the difference, assemble the puzzle, solve the code. There is enough variance to keep it from being predictable. However, if you really like the match-3 puzzles, or can’t figure the original puzzle, each puzzle has the option for you to do a match-3 instead.
The storyline is rather weak. It is about Mary, a mother who is searching for her stolen child. Her child was taken in retaliation for things she had done in a past life by searching for her child who was a kid. Her spouse, and the presumed father of the child, has been badly hurt and left with complete strangers while Mary hunts through various realms.
In general, the storyline is just to move you between the scenes and on to the next puzzle. The story is weak, but the gameplay is strong. This title offers a lot of puzzles that are challenging. Some are easy, while others actually require a bit of thought.
This is a fairly easy to play game on your phone. Not a lot of instruction required; you click on characters to talk to them, and click on items, puzzles, and hidden objects to interact with them. You have an inventory for found items, and you can combine some of those items to create new objects. I really enjoyed the fact that there is a map that allows quick teleporting, For those that like collecting in games, there are morphing objects and memories of Sophia you can find laying around.
Overall, the game plays nicely, there is enough challenge and variety to keep it interesting, but not so challenging that you want to just walk away from the game. My only problem with it on Android is that I feel that you lose a lot of the beautiful art on the smaller screen.
