Wizard World Chicago Cosplay Spotlight – Sith Camaro aka Toby Markham

wizard-world-logoEvery comic and gaming convention has cosplay; these are the people who pay to attend and go in various costumes. Most conventions also have their official Cosplay guests and Wizard World Chicago 2015 is no exception. Usually I am at least familiar with the official Cosplay guests, but this year there are some new faces so I thought I would take a look at them with a daily spotlight.

Sith Camaro a.k.a. Toby Markham

sithcamaro2Toby lists himself as a starving freelance artist and entertainer. He has a strong dislike for the word ‘cosplay’ and prefers to refer to it as ‘character acting.’ He describes it like wearing a suit, once you put the costume on you adapt the persona associated with it.

He’s been character acting since he was young, but it was only in the mid 90’s that he started crafting his own costuming. Starting with Star Wars. Since then his repertoire of costuming creations and characters have expanded. Check out his store at Sith Camaro Costumes, or head over to his facebook page to see some of his great artwork

The official Wizard World Bio:

Toby Markham is a starving freelance artist/entertainer from Chicago, with way too much time on his hands. He’s been featured in magazines, graced catalog covers, and done numerous charity events, all in the name of fun.

Being no stranger to the arts, (acting, drawing, design, sculpting) it wasn’t until 1996 that he fully plunged into costume making. Completely untrained in any sort of sewing, he began to teach himself the ins and outs.

His costuming career began with all things Star Wars: Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Stormtroopers and background characters. Once he had exhausted most of his favorite characters from that series, it was time to him to break from his shell. He began creating many of his other favorite characters: Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, Sauron and Joker.

He is always looking for costumes to challenge his skills, and learn something new along the way. He has recently been enveloped with costumes that have required a lot of sculpting and casting. To him it’s not about how many he can make, but how polished and perfected they can become.
