Wizard World Chicago Cosplay Spotlight – Robin Johnson Jr.

wizard-world-logoEvery comic and gaming convention has cosplay; these are the people who pay to attend and go in various costumes. Most conventions also have their official Cosplay guests and Wizard World Chicago 2015 is no exception. Usually I am at least familiar with the official Cosplay guests, but this year there are some new faces so I thought I would take a look at them with a daily spotlight.

Robin Johnson Jr.

robin johnson jr4His website is GetSuperTX and his costuming is pretty super even if his official website is a little lacking. If you really want to see what he is about then you need to check out his facebook cosplay page and his personal facebook.robin johnson jr5Robin is a personal trainer and a professional bodybuilder on top of being a cosplayer. His most recent cosplay seems to be a Classic Cyborg, and it looks great. It has a moving jaw and full light up effects.robin johnson jr

He also appears to be a Dragon Ball fan, I can’t wait to see what his final Gold Frieza looks like.

DB DB 1Here is his official Wizard World Bio:

I am a Certified Personal Trainer and Drug Free Professional Bodybuilder. I have earned professional status with four different organizations. Competing in multiple organizations have given me vast experience with competitions as a competitor and as a backstage coach.

I currently Live and train clients in the Round Rock, Texas.

I competed as a varsity athlete at Indiana State University and played NCAA football.

Post college I signed a contract with the Fort Wayne Freedom of the National Indoor Football League or NIFL. At that point my bodybuilding career took a back seat. While I did not compete during this time, I still trained as if I were. As football ended I tried my hand at Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and other competitive sports.

In 2008 I relocated to Austin, Texas and became a full-time Personal Trainer. With hard work and a new found focus I was able to achieve my dream and become a Professional Bodybuilder.

As a youngster I was always interested in Cartoons and superheroes. I started making costumes when i was 12 while watching my little brothers. I would dress them up as their favorite characters and act out for our parents. I used my athletic training to better myself as a costumer also. I try to look like the characters Michael Turner and Ed Mcguiness. I first went to a convention in 2008 at the Annual Superman Celebration. In 2009 I won the costume contest overall best in show when I Red Tornado. I have advanced my costuming quite a bit. Over the following years I have placed or won in every costume contest I have been in. SXSW (South By Southwest Gaming Expo) I have won best video game character and comic book character, Ghrams Central Station Best overall, Superman Celebration, I even placed with honorable mention in the final publication of Wizard Magazine #231 November 2010. I have since retired from participating in costume contest to be more of an ambassador for cosplay and help guide others to their dreams of being a cosplayer.

Currently I and a group of my peers go to movie premiers for local theatres and also attend local schools and birthday parties for children.
