Star Trek, the Matterhorn, Oreos & animals. - "What is What We Watched this Week?"

While we’re all staying at home, a lot of us are watching things online. With the plethora of videos available, and more being created every day, it’s an enjoyable way to pass the time and bring a little fun into our lives. Some of these may be brand new, some may be older, but here are a few of the videos I enjoyed this week.

The seasons are changing and fall is upon us here in the United States, but winter is reminding us that it is not far off as well. Some sanitation workers in Rhode Island decided to give the children along their route a bit of a Halloween surprise by dressing up as Anna and Elsa, and it almost seemed as if the weather itself approved of this, as it snowed as the pair made their way along their route!

The police department of Southlake, Texas learned the other week that, sometimes, animals just don’t want to be rescued. A beaver was trapped in a lake, and after roughly half an hour of attempting to coerce it out by various methods, officers came up with a plan to balance a plank on the float that held the beaver. As you can see the plan was successful, and the beaver rescued itself!

The news of Alex Trebek’s passing broke last week, but before the Jeopardy! Twitter account shared a special moment after contestant Burt Thakur shared with Trebek after he won. Like many contestants, Thakur grew up watching Jeopardy!, and learned English through watching the show with his grandfather.

Earlier this week, golfers were going through practice rounds at Augusta National Golf Club for the Masters tournament. It also happened to be Jon Rahm’s birthday, so he decided to have a bit of fun and show off, shooting a hole-in-one while also skipping the ball across a pond. What a shot!

Speaking of golf, this giant alligator was spotted on a golf course in Florida. That would be quite the sight to see while getting in a few holes!

Are you wanting to take your Oreos to the next level? Well, now you can with custom-designed Oreos! You can choose your filling color, dip, and sprinkles. If you’re looking for that extra-special touch, you can even add custom images if you’d like!

While everyone has their opinions on the quality of various Star Trek movies, you have to agree that they certainly attract some top-notch talent. As an example, here is the screen test for the yet-unknown Tom Hardy with Sir Patrick Stewart when the former was auditioning for his role of Picard’s clone in Star Trek: Nemesis.

What do you do if you’re an engineer stuck at home during a pandemic? Well, obviously, you build a replica of Disneyland’s Matterhorn roller coaster in your backyard! This truly is a feat of engineering and ingenuity, and certainly brings a little bit of that Disney magic to the builder’s home. It can only seat one person at a time, but that just means everyone gets their chance to have a bit of fun!

Bringing things back full circle, here’s a video of two adorable cats being rescued – one stuck in a wall in Australia, and another being pulled from the rubble of an earthquake in Turkey. It’s good to see that in situations big and small, we can’t forget about our furry feline friends!

What have you been watching this week?
