We got our first look at Season 7 of Arrow at San Diego Comic Con just a couple of months ago, but with the new season less than a month away, a new trailer has been recently released. It gives us a better look at Oliver Queen’s time in prison and what his friends in Star City are facing.
It goes without saying that heroes who end up in prison are going to have quite a hard time being surrounded by those they helped put away. Oliver insists that he’s no longer the same person he was, but old habits die hard. If the fight scenes shown in the trailer are any indication, he’s going to have a hard time keeping his head down.
In Star City, the Green Arrow has shown up once again, despite Laurel Lance’s insistence that this is an imposter. Renee says that sometimes people just need something to believe in, and Diggle tries to convince Oliver that he’s always been the one to fight back.
All in all, it seems like there will be plenty for our heroes to deal with this season on Arrow.

Arrow director James Bamford spoke about the direction of the show under the guidance of new showrunner Beth Schwartz:
Beth [Schwartz, Arrow showrunner] and I had a phone call with BNSP, which is our censors… a very lengthy phone call about a particular scene that we never had before. So, we are really trying to push the limits on the show in the gritty factor. We are trying to go as far as you can go within the confines of our network and what is expected of us and what we can do and can’t do. We are not on Netflix, so we will never be able to X, Y, and Z, but we are damn sure going to try.
It has also been said that Oliver will do something “reprehensible” in the premiere, with actor Stephen Amell saying, “There’s nothing about him that is heroic at all.” He elaborated further:
Obviously, you want to lean into things that you think fans would want, right. Concurrently, I’m all for things that make fans mad, because mad is no different than happy. The only thing that I don’t want is indifference. I always joke with fans about my alter-ego, Evil Story Steve. If you were to tell me, you know, that four people died in the season premiere of Arrow in season seven, I’d be very sad … but my alter-ego, Evil Story Steve, would be like, ‘Oh – that’s very exciting; why’d that happen?’
So, I think that making fans happy, clearly, is what you wanna do when you’re on a show in general because you want people to keep watching, as long as you’re not afraid to lean into things that may make them go, ‘But why would you do that? I hate that. That’s awful,’ because that’s not actually what they mean. If someone screams out on Twitter, ‘I’m gonna stop watching the show!’ they’re probably not gonna stop watching the show, you know what I mean?
“Inmate 4587”, the Season 7 premiere of Arrow, debuts Monday, October 15 at 8/7C on The CW.
