[Video] ‘Hamilton’ Drops Trailer For Disney+ Release

Hamilton: An American Musical has had quite the ride since its debut in January of 2015. It was a smash hit from the beginning, branching out from its home in New York to have residencies around the country and in the UK, as well as a US touring show. Two years ago, it was announced that a recording with the original Broadway cast in 2016 was being bid on by several movie studios for a release in theaters. It was ultimately bought by Disney and given a release date of October 21, 2021. However, all that changed when the world changed and went into lockdown. In May, the company decided to not only move up the release date to July 3rd, but it will now be released on their Disney+ streaming service.

With the release date now less than two weeks away, a trailer was released today give us a taste of what we can expect from this filmed version of the smash hit musical.

Additionally, a brief clip from the opening number, “Alexander Hamilton”, has been released.

If this is anything to go by, the show will truly be a treat for not only those familiar with Hamilton, but new fans as well. The best thing about it is that it gives those who might not have had the opportunity to see musical live in its various incarnations for a variety of reasons. Also, as with many things, Disney’s timing in impeccable. Not only will it provide an evening of entertainment for families still staying at home, but it will be released the day before the US celebrates Independence Day, which celebrates the original colonies declaring independence from England, the story of which is told in the musical.
