Two Years Ago Today – March 12

March 12, 2015 saw us covering Will Ferrell’s attempt at an MLB record as he played all field positions in one day. This was a record previously held over 50 years by Oakland’s Bert Campaneris. On Sept. 8, 1965, Campaneris, in only his second Major League season, went 0-for-3 playing all nine positions for the Kansas City Athletics in a game against the California Angels. Campaneris was there as Ferrell tried to beat his record by playing all the positions on 10 different teams.

Two years ago, it was announced that the new Star Wars stand-alone film would be named Rogue One and Disney named Chris Weitz (Cinderella, About a Boy, Antz, the Golden Compass) as the writer and Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) as director. Rogue One was released December 16, 2016. They also talked about Star Wars Episode VIII, which was scheduled for release May 26, 2017…somehow I don’t think they are making this deadline

Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk started an Indiegogo campaign to bring Con Man to the internet as a webseries. The campaign was more than successful and the series has run two seasons since. It is about the adventure on the science fiction convention circuit.

Con Man – a new webseries by Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk

March 2015 was not a good month for geekdom.  Leonard Nimoy died, Harrison Ford was in a plane crash and then sci-fi author Sir Terry Pratchett died.

Upsilon Circuit was a video game of a different type , it was one where your character death was final, and by final we mean that is end of the game, you are out and can NEVER play again. To make it worse, it is not just you that decides the fate of your character. Only 8 players are allowed in at a time, and their fates are determined by a live audience, ready to jump in at a moment’s notice. That’s what this game was about, unfortunately it looks like it is still in Alpha mode.

This was also the day we announced that Season three of Orange is the New Black would return to Netflix on June 12, 2015.
