Order up!  That’s right!  AMC’s The Walking Dead spin-off series has placed an order for two seasons.  AMC announced their deadly dish on Monday, March 9.

The title of the new series has yet to be released, however, according to AMC, the first season will have six one-hour episodes that will premiere on AMC this summer.  Unfortunately, we will have die waiting for the show to return for its second season in 2016.  (Well worth the wait, I’m sure!)

Just as the original AMC’s The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, and David Alpert will also be executive producers of this new series that AMC Studios plans on producing.  It has been reported that the series will be set in Los Angeles and star Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, Sons of Anarchy), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Cliff Curtis (Missing, Gang Related), and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm).

Charlie Collier, AMC’s president weighed in on the new series,

“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television.  From the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’  Through this new series, we’re going to find out…  Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson and their writing team, along with an incomparable set of producers, cast and crew have created something remarkable and clearly distinct.  We respectfully follow the request of Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”

Kirkman also noted how committed AMC is to bring a successful spin-off.

“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC…  I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story.  I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to The Walking Dead.”

Erickson added his excited thoughts for the future of this new series.

“This vote of confidence from our partners at AMC is gratifying, to say the least…  We’ve been blessed with amazing writers and a stellar cast — and we can’t wait to build this apocalyptic drama over the next two seasons and hopefully beyond.”

An added delight that AMC Global had the pleasure to announce was that it had gained rights to the series for international television.  This gives it way to air the show within 24 hours of when it premiers in the U.S. and to 115 other countries in the world.

So what do you look forward to most in the new series?  Do you think it will be as successful as the original series?  Let us know what you think in the comments below!
