TV’s “Wonder Woman” Lynda Carter to be Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

Lynda Carter, the actress who starred as Wonder Woman on the 1970s TV series, will be honored with a lifetime achievement award in less than two weeks at the 41st annual Gracie Awards.

Lynda Carter 1Presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation, the Gracie Awards recognize exemplary programming created by women, for women and about women in all facets of media and entertainment. They also acknowledge the individuals who have made inspirational contributions to the industry.

Not only an actress, Carter has also made herself known as a singer and songwriter whose career has spanned television, film and the Broadway stage. Although when you ask most people, the 64-year-old remains best remembered for her starring role on “Wonder Woman,” which aired from 1975 to 1979.

Lynda is the definition of a trailblazer as she has paved the way for women in media, carrying a national television show as ‘Wonder Woman,’ and producing and starring in five highly rated network television specials,” Kristen Welch, chair of AWMF, said in a statement. “Her success on screen, on the music charts and on stage showcase her talent and drive to break down barriers.”

Lynda Carter 3Carter is probably best know for starring as the female superhero “Wonder Woman,” an action/adventure-drama series that ran from 1975-1979.  She has made guest appearances on “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Smallville” and “Two and a Half Men.”  The actress also took to the big screen for the 2005 movie reboot of “Dukes of Hazzard” alongside Johnny Knoxville and Jessica Simpson. Carter has devoted herself to singing, beauty pageants and charity work, including Race For The Cure, Ronald McDonald House, U.S.O., GLAAD, God’s Love We Deliver and Father Martin’s Ashley Recovery Center.

The 41st annual Gracie Awards will be held May 24, 2016 at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire, Los Angeles, California.
