[TV News] All The Details So Far For The DC ‘Elseworlds’ Crossover On The CW

Shadowman

THE CW

With several DC television shows in its schedule, the CW has made an event of crossing over the various shows every year. This year is no different, and we have all the information you need to know about the upcoming crossover.

Elseworlds

The event will be called “Elseworlds,” referencing a series in DC comics that tells stories of our favorite heroes in settings quite unlike where we are used to seeing them. Many of these stories are self-contained, allowing the writers to tell these stories without messing up established canon. Some of the more well-known Elseworlds stories include a Victorian Batman, the Justice League forming without Superman, and what would have happened is Superman’s pod had landed in the Soviet Union. It allows the crossover full creativity storywise and unleashing the full potential of the Multiverse.

The Arrowverse has become quite familiar with the multiverse ever since Barry Allen discovered the ability to travel between worlds in The Flash. Several characters from the show come from other Earths, and it has been established that Kara Danvers lives on an Earth separate from the rest of the Arrowverse. In last year’s Crisis on Earth-X, the crossover saw our heroes clash with their doppelgangers from an alternate Earth where the Nazis were in control.

For Season 4 of Supergirl, the show is adapting the Superman: Red Son story which saw Kal-El’s spaceship land in the Soviet Union instead of Kansas. This won’t be the first time Supergirl has had to face off against an evil version of herself – last year, she did battle with Overgirl, her Nazi double from Earth-X.

With such a diversity of stories in Elseworlds, it is near impossible to speculate on what the storyline of this crossover might be. However, the recent reveals of costumes have set to Internet ablaze with speculation.

Batwoman

As we previously shared with you, the crossover this year will introduce the character of Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, into the Arrowverse. Actress Ruby Rose has been cast in the role, and last week gave us our first look at her in the superhero’s outfit.

Villains

The Monitor

We might not know what they are up to, but a few villainous characters (or those close to them) well-known in Gotham will be making their appearance in Elseworlds. Jeremy Davies has been cast as the person being called the main villain of the crossover, John Deegan. Deegan is a doctor at Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane in Gotham City, who might just be crazier than the inmates he treats. It will be his actions that draw the Flash, Green Arrow, and Supergirl to Gotham City.

Cassandra Jean Amell has been cast as Nora Fries, the wife of Dr. Freeze. Dr. Freeze will not be appearing in the crossover.

In what is probably the biggest news, LaMonica Garrett will appear as Mar Novu, aka the Monitor. An extraterrestrial being of infinite power, and charged with the protection of the Multiverse, the Monitor played a prominent role in DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earths series.

Costume Hints

We also know that Tyler Hoechlin will be returning in his role as Clark Kent/Superman in the crossover. This time, Lois Lane will be joining him. Actress Elizabeth Tulloch has been cast in the role.

This week also gave us a look at Superman’s new costume for the crossover.

The black suit was revealed by Arrow star Stephen Amell via social media Monday. Amell, Hoechlin, and The Flash star Grant Gustin appear to be hanging out on set in the photo. Others have pointed out how Amell and Gustin seem to be wearing similar clothing under their coats, hinting that they may be dressed as doppelgangers to their Earth-1 characters.

The black Superman suit is made from a material that harnesses Superman’s Kryptonian ability to absorb the energy from a yellow sun and kicks it up a notch, absorbing sunlight and converting it at a much higher rate than normal. It is known best for appearing in the “Death of Superman” series, but has been used in other Superman stories.

Additional behind the scenes photos have surfaced showing the full outfits of Amell and Gustin, showing them dressed in what looks to be full biker gear.

Amell and Gustin also share an official poster for the crossover, in which Oliver is dressed as the Flash and Barry as Green Arrow.

Actress Melissa Benoist, who plays Kara Danvers/Supergirl, also shared a photo of herself, Tulloch, and Hoechlin on what looks like a farm. Could the trio also be paying a visit to the Kent farm?

Another image shared by Benoist shows Gustin in front of the house used as the Kent’s in Smallville, confirming that Barry Allen will be there as well.

With a little less than two months left before the crossover, there’s still plenty of time for other tidbits to come out, as well as fans theorizing.

Elseworlds will take place from Sunday December 9 though Tuesday December 11 on The CW starting at 8pm Eastern/7pm Central each night.
