Transformers 5, 6, and 7?! Here’s What We Know So Far

On Friday, February 5, 2016 Paramount Studios announced the we can prepare ourselves for more sequels as Transformers is set for three more films to be produced within the next three years. At first it was very unclear if director Michael Bay would be returning or not, but Paramount has confirmed that Bay will be back for Transformers 5. With Bay being the driving force behind the first four films, which grossed a combined $3.7 billion, I personally can’t wait to see what tricks he has in-store for us fans.

Let’s recap with the fourth film, Transformers: Age of Extinction, which left us with a few unanswered questions. The film domestically grossed $245 million, while internationally the film grossed a whopping $858 million. We learn in the film that Optimus Prime is being hunted by the ruthless mercenary Lockdown. I’m sure a lot of us would like a little more insight on Lockdown as a character, but not only that, who hired Lockdown to hunt Optimus and why? We also hear Lockdown say “your creators want you back,” leaving us to believe that there are higher beings in the Transformers Universe. Also towards the end of the film you hear Optimus say “the earth will not be safe with me here.” This seems to imply Optimus could possibly already know who is hunting him.

What can we expect from this upcoming film? Right now, as it sits, Transformers 5 is set for June 23, 2017. Hasbro’s chariman, president and CEO Brian Goldner announced at the New York Toy Fair that the iconic actor Mark Wahlberg will be returning for the fifth film. We were also informed that Transformers 6, set for June 8, 2018, will unveil a Bumblebee backstory from Hasbro’s Transformers Universe. Still not impressed? Director Michael Bay and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura also revealed that they were bringing on Akiva Goldsman to help expand the “Transformers Cinematic Universe.” With all that being said, the last and final scheduled release date is Transformers 7, set for June 28, 2019. As a big fan of Transformers, I’m personally hoping some questions will be answered and that we can expect more eye-popping action. With that being said, the fine people creating these films I’m sure will not disappoint… stay tuned for more information.
