1923 – The first issue of “TIME” appeared on newsstands featuring Joseph Gurney Cannon, grand old man of Congress.
1931 – After over a century, a poem written by Francis Scott Key was finally established as the U.S. National Anthem.
1945 – Superman encountered Batman and Robin for the first time on the Mutual Broadcasting System.
1634 – First tavern in Boston opens
1847 – US Post Office Department is authorized to issue postage stamps
1875 – Georges Bizet’s last and greatest opera “Carmen” premieres in Paris
1887 – Anne Sullivan begins teaching 6 year old blind-deaf Helen Keller
1980 – First nuclear submarine, USS Nautilus is decommissioned
1985 – “Moonlighting” with Cybill Shepard & Bruce Willis premieres on ABC TV in the US
2013 – A 2-year-old US girl becomes the first child born with HIV to be cured
