Vacation in Turkey: For many Germans the country is a popular destination.

It depends on what you want:

  • Quiet beaches and culture: Bozcaada and Assos.
  • The olive town of Ayvalık
  • Pure nature: Kuyucak and Artvin

In the past 12 months, about 1.86 million people traveled to Turkey for vacation. This makes Turkey a popular travel destination. Holidaymakers share their experiences in reports and tell you about various secret travel spots in the country that hardly anyone knows about.

WHERE TO SEE WHAT

If you are planning a trip to Turkey, the question arises: where to? One possible destination that few tourists know about is the island of Bozcaada in the northeast Aegean Sea. It is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. On the island with vineyards, traditional Aegean food and beautiful beaches you can enjoy your time out in peace. Besides the clear water, the destination also offers a great view from the beach.

If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing beach resort, Assos could be the right place for you. The ancient city is located on the southwest coast of the Troas. You can expect quiet beaches as well as relaxing resorts and an idyllic atmosphere. After relaxing on the beach, you can enjoy various cultural highlights. Worth seeing are for example the ruins of the ancient city of Assos or the cozy village Behramkale.

Not far from Assos is the destination Ayvalık. The city is located in the eponymous district of the Turkish province of Balıkesir. Since it is one of the largest olive-growing areas in Turkey, you can find, for example, freshly pressed olive oil and hand-pressed olive soaps. If you are a diving enthusiast or water sports fan, this is the right place for you: the sea at Badavut beach is crystal clear and offers you many options in this regard. The Sarimsakli beach is also worth a visit, one of the many beautiful beaches in Ayvalik. Paradisiacal bays and beaches far from mass tourism await you on the islands off the coast. In the old town you can visit historical museums like the museum church Taksiyarhis Kilisesi and mosques, for example the Clock Mosque.

Nature highlights in Kuyucak and Artvin

Far from touristy crowds, you can also vacation in the lavender area of Kuyucak, located in the homonymous county of Turkey’s Aydın province. The village brings a touch of Provence and welcomes you with an intense lavender scent when you visit it during the blooming season at the end of June. The lavender garden is open to visitors between June 25 and August 15. At small stands you can buy various lavender products such as lavender jam, soaps, scented sachets, lavender ice cream or lavender wreaths. In the surrounding area you will also find exciting sights such as the Sumer Parki Park, the Yoruk Ali-Efe Museum or the Nysa Ruins.

A vacation in Artvin offers you an adventurous alternative to the typical beach and sea vacation. Artvin is a province of Turkey, whose capital is the eponymous city of Artvin. You can expect striking mountain ranges, green forests and quiet lakes. On high plateaus you can enjoy the view and look into idyllic valleys and untouched forest areas. The area is ideal for extensive hiking tours; and if you would like to go to the sea, you can travel to the edge of the province: It is located on the Black Sea.

All the places presented can give you an inspiration to find your ideal destination in Turkey. Finally, of course, it is all about your ideas of the perfect vacation.
