‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Gives Its First Look In Teaser Trailer

Since 2017, Amazon has been working on developing a television series for its streaming service based on the world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. At one point, it was even believed that the series would follow a younger version of Aragorn, played by Viggo Mortensen in the wildly-successful trilogy. The official synopsis was finally revealed last year, telling us that the story would instead focus many thousands of years before the story we all know in the Second Age of Middle-earth.

Since then we have been given a few images from the series, but we now have the show’s first trailer, which premiered during the Super Bowl.

True to its name, the trailer teases a lot, but at least gives us a hint of what to expect when the show premieres in September. We see hints of many new characters, the Undying Lands, and epic adventures. We also have glimpses of the only two characters casual fans might recognize, the elves Elrond and Galadriel, though both are millenia younger from when we meet them in Lord of the Rings. Much has been rumored about the series, but we still have many months to go before we get any concrete answers.

As a serious Tolkien fan myself, I have high expectations of anything looking to deal in world of Middle-earth. However, I’m going to do my best and not pre-judge this show from a few images an one teaser trailer. But you can sure bet that I will be logging in when the show airs.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut on Amazon Prime September 2, 2022.
