Will Feature NBA Star, De’Aaron Fox

eigoMANGA, a media company for publishing digital comics, animation, and games announced a virtual panel for Comic-Con International’s Comic-Con@Home which features NBA point guard for the Sacramento Kings, De’Aaron Fox. Comic-Con@Home is an online event that will combine aspects of the convention experience with the comforts of home. eigoMANGA’s panel with De’Aaron Fox will stream on Comic-Con International’s official website and YouTube channel scheduled on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 1:00 pm (GMT-07:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada).

eigoMANGA will also host a virtual booth through Comic-Con@Home’s official website, where fans will be able to access information on upcoming releases, announcements, and purchase exclusive merchandise.

eigoMANGA’s Publisher, Austin Osueke moderates a panel with De’Aaron Fox along with his agent, Chris Gaston, and writer Natashia McGough Clarke (EdD). Together they discuss Fox’s fandom for anime, manga, and how it intertwines with his basketball career. Pro basketball manager turned comic writer, Andy Ikeakor also discusses the fundamentals of writing comic books centered around sports. This panel will also discuss De’Aaron Fox’s upcoming manga-influenced comic book produced and published by eigoMANGA called “Swipa The Fox”.

The “Swipa The Fox” comic book is about De’Aaron Fox accidentally venturing into a basketball video game while his video game counterpart causes havoc in the real world. De’Aaron has to harness all of his world-class basketball skills to play his way out of the digital game and return to reality.

The Comic-Con@Home panel with De’Aaron Fox is called “NBA Players Are Anime Fans Too” and the video stream will premiere on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 1:00 pm (GMT-07:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada).

FIRST LATINA SUPERHERO UNIVERSE BREAKS
GROUNDS AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON@HOME

San Diego Comic Con International is dedicated to creating the general public’s awareness of and appreciation for comics and multi-genre entertainment. Now 51 years strong being the organizer of the annual pop culture celebration. Creator/Writer Kayden Phoenix, having been a long-time full pass attendee herself, is proud to see herself on the other side of the table. Her publishing company, Phoenix Studios, created a universe of Latina Superhero graphic novels called A La Brava.

Always inspired by Comic Con’s grandeur, Kayden Phoenix wanted to create Latina superheroes that empower and invigorate. “I want to create a superhero mindset for all marginalized individuals, particularly Latine.” Support from national news channels like Disney/ABC Eyewitness News 7, Spectrum News 1, and international Spanish station, Univision, have broadcasted Phoenix’s comics echoing the importance of diverse representation.

Combine Phoenix’s vision with a fresh-eyed Latina artist team like acclaimed GLAAD and Eisner-nominated illustrator, Eva Cabrera (SANTA, LOQUITA) and newcomer Amanda Julina Gonzalez (JALISCO, RUCA), an uprooted New Mexican who recently graduated from Laguna College of Art and Design in Animation, and you get beautiful and inspiring crafted pieces of art.

Though a relatively new Universe, only the first three Latina superhero books are out, ComicCon@Home asked A La Brava to return after her WonderCon panel earlier this year. Kayden Phoenix and Amanda Julina Gonzalez are grateful to be in ‘Abolishing Traditional Ideas of Latinas through Latina Superheroes’ panel (Fri July 23rd at 5pm PST) with industry experts Dr. Drea Letamendi (clinical psychologist and host of Arkham Sessions podcast) and Frederick Luis Aldama (Eisner-Awarded professor).

On Friday night, July 24th, Comic-Con International virtually hosted the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards ceremony. We are proud to announce that Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo) won “Best Letterer”, Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo: Grasscutter Artist Select won “Best Archival Collection/Project — Comic Books”, and They Called Us Enemy won “Best Reality-Based Work.” You can read more about the Eisner results and acceptance statements from the creators by clicking here.

Two major new projects were announced this past week! Marvel Action: Chillers, the spine-tingling new addition to IDW’s Marvel Action line (more info here), will be written by Jeremy Whitley and feature artwork by Ahmara Smith, Bowen McCurdy, Gretel Lusky, and Bill Underwood. Also, IDW revealed the full details on the time-traveling crossover series Transformers / Back to the Future by writer Cavan Scott and artist Juan Samu (more info here).

[Comic-Con@Home] Get an Early Look at HBO’s LOVECRAFT COUNTRY

During Saturday’s Comic-Con@Home panel for HBO’s genre-bending LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, fans were presented an exclusive sneak peek from the first season.

In the scene, Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), his friend Leti (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his father Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams) raid a museum after hours in the pursuit of the clues they’re desperately seeking.

From showrunner and executive producer Misha Green, drama series LOVECRAFT COUNTRY debuts SUNDAY, AUGUST 16 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. Based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, the ten-episode series follows Atticus Freeman as he journeys with his childhood friend Letitia and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) on a road trip from Chicago across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father Montrose. Their search-and-rescue turns into a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and monstrous creatures that could be ripped from an H.P. Lovecraft paperback.

In addition to a long section devoted to Ray Bradbury (including an extensive biography, plus articles on his work in movies and TV, comics, and personal reminiscences), there’s also a special section devoted to the “other” Ray … Ray Harryhausen, the stop-motion animation genius, who was a lifelong friend of Bradbury’s, and is also celebrating a centennial this year.

It’s also the 75th anniversary of the very beginnings of EC Comics, and we celebrate with a history of the company focusing on their artists by author Grant Geissman, the recognized expert on EC. (There’s also a very special surprise that brings both Ray Bradbury and EC Comics together!) The worldwide phenomenon of Moomin also celebrates its 75th anniversary with an article by comics historian Paul Gravett, plus an incredible collection of fan art. Moving on, we look at the 50th anniversary of two historical American comics series, Conan and Jack Kirby’s Fourth World, featuring, respectively, articles by Roy Thomas (who brought Conan to Marvel Comics in 1970), and John Morrow and Mark Evanier discussing “King” Kirby’s groundbreaking creation, the Fourth World, which included the New Gods, the Forever People, Mister Miracle, and—believe it or not—Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen.

Comic-Con@Home has announced the winners of awards and prizes of the 2020 Masquerade Costume Competition! The event had 50 entries and was staged on the social networking site Tumblr, and included submissions from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Scotland, England, Italy, Germany, Lithuania, Egypt, and Australia.

Laura Jean Shannon – Costume Designer Laura Jean Shannon’s recent television credits include serving as Superhero/Specialty Costume Designer on DC’s Black Lightning, Titans, Doom Patrol, and Stargirl. Her film credits include: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Two Guns, and Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, as well as The Jungle Book, Chef , Elf, and Iron Man, the latter earned Shannon a nomination for the Costume Design Guild Award for Excellence in Contemporary Film Design.
Gigi Bannister – An experienced producer, director, writer and special effects makeup artist and coordinator for a wide variety of independent feature films, TV shows, and live events, she’s been in the film industry for 45 years. Between making films is often a guest speaker at conventions, film festivals, seminars, and appears regularly at Comic-Con: International where she donates her time and talents with professional make-up assistance for Masquerade contestants.
Allan Lavigne – Costumer, make-up special effects artist, sculptor, and painter with 40+ years with credits from Lucasfilm, Sony Pictures, Disney, and more, his work has been exhibited around the world in museums, film premieres, and numerous conventions. His Bronze Armory studio is in the San Francisco Bay area where he creates, lectures, and teaches. Formerly a top winner for many years in fan costuming at many conventions, he brings with him great insight from having learned and honed his costume skills as a contestant himself.

Phil LaMarr Hosts the 2020 “Virtual” Will Eisner
Comic Industry Awards Ceremony Tonight!

The 32nd Annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards will be held as a virtual Comic-Con@Home ceremony tonight, from 7:00 to 8:00 PDT. The ceremony is hosted by voice actor Phil LaMarr (left), known for portraying Green Lantern in Justice League, Hermes Conrad in Futurama, and the title characters on both Samurai Jack and Static Shock. His film and TV acting credits include Pulp Fiction, Free Enterprise, Veep, Get Shorty, and Supergirl.

Named for the pioneering comics creator and graphic novelist Will Eisner, the Eisner Awards, considered the “Oscars” of the comic book industry, will be given out for works published in 2019. LaMarr will announce the nominees and winners in 31 of the categories, while beloved cartoonist Sergio Aragonés (Groo,MAD) will be presenting this year’s inductees to the Will Eisner Hall of Fame. In addition, Ruth Clampett will be announcing the recipients of the 2020 Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award, and Eisner Awards Administrator Jackie Estrada will open and close the ceremony.

With Free Comic Book Day postponed in the ether, Russell Nohelty of Wannabe Press and fellow creator Neo Edmund thought it would be an awesome idea to host an “alt-free comic day” filled with free digital books, tons of awesome panels, and great creators hanging out for two days, on May 1st and 2nd.

They’ll have panels by Marv Wolfman (co-creator of The Teen Titans), Kevin Eastman (co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Richard Starkings (creator of Elephantmen), Sandy Carpenter, and more. Plus, dozens of free comics, and the whole event is 100% free!

Alt FCD will be having panels all through the live stream filled with awesome writers and artists talking about the process of making comics, writing books, and drawing art. Below is a schedule of the artist schedules. Schedule is subject to change.

Neo Edmund, actor turned best-selling author, screenwriter, and comic book writer began his Hollywood career as an actor appearing on numerous television shows, most notably 100 episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Opting to pursue his passion for writing, Neo transitioned into the creative side of the film and TV industry. He is the author of the bestselling novel series The Red Riding Alpha Huntress Chronicles, currently in development with John Carpenter and Sandy King’s production company Storm King. His most recent works include three Power Rangers novels for Penguin Books and a new comic book series The Grimms Town Terror Tales with Storm King Comics.

Richard Starkings is a British font designer and comic book letterer, editor and writer. He created Elephant Men, lettered The Killing Joke, and was one of the early pioneers of computer-based comic-book lettering, and is one of the most prolific creators in that industry.

Sandy Carpenter is the publisher of Storm King Productions where, with her husband John Carpenter, they are curating amazing horror and other genre comics. Sandy has been working in Hollywood for decades, and Storm King Comics works with some of the absolute best names in comics.

Jimmy Palmiotti is a multi-award winning intellectual property creator and world building architect with a wide range of experience and background in advertising, production, editorial, screen writing, film production, media presentation, and video game development. Just a few of his clients include Nike, Disney, Marvel Studios, Warner Brothers, Lion’s Gate, Fox, Paramount, Dream Works, Lotus entertainment, New Line, 2KGames and THQ Nordic. Currently in film development are a number of projects created by Jimmy.
