Even though it only ran for two seasons, the show Agent Carter still has a dedicated fan base all over the world. Proof of this is the new makeup collection from vintage-styled makeup company Besame Cosmetics.
Founded by Gabriela Hernandez in 2004, the company recreates classic luxury makeup and fragrances from the 1910’s – 1960’s, striving to make the exact color and textures of their inspiration. Last year the company launched a Snow White collection to great success. Now, they are partnering with Marvel to give fans items that could have been used by the character in her spy days.
For those not familiar with the character of Margaret ‘Peggy’ Carter, she was introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger as a member of the SSR, the government agency that transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America, and worked with Captain America during World War II. After the war, she continued to work with the SSR and inventor Howard Stark, eventually helping found S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Carter documents some of her adventures after the war and features several spy gadgets given to her by Howard Stark.
Besame had great fun with the marketing of this collection, teasing fans with clues in a letter from Howard Stark, a speeding ticket, newpaper clippings, and an origami note. Last month, fans who were signed up for the collection’s e-mail notifications received a link for a special blind box that contained an item from the collection itself and two other exclusive items, dubbed the “Field Agent Lip Kit”.
The box contained a jewelry box with a secret compartment with a signed photo of Howard Stark and a letter. The compartment contained three lipsticks, one of which was very familiar to fans of the show. The lipsticks were labeled 102 Sweet Dreams, 103 Forget Me Not, and 104 Always Be True. The accompanying letter details how each lipstick should be used. 102 Sweet Dreams was used by Peggy in the first episode of the show to knock out an enemy by kissing on the lips. 103 Forget Me Not causes the person kissed to forget the last 12 hours, and 104 Always Be True causes them to tell the truth. The actual colors of the lipsticks are three of Besame’s colors – Red Velvet (worn by actress Hayley Atwell on Agent Carter), Dusty Rose, and Red Hot Red. Unfortunately, the box is no longer available for purchase since the company only made a limited number and they have sold out.
Late on Sunday night, Besame released a video detailing the other items in their Agent Carter collection. The 102 Sweet Dreams lipstick will be made available, as well as a compact and an eyeshadow palette. The compact is named the Invisible Dusting Powder. It has a decoder inside, which can be used to decode a message in the company’s newsletter, the Besame Bugle, or to send messages between you and your friends. The powder itself is a talc-free translucent powder for setting your makeup and giving your look a touch of 1940’s glam. The Passport Shadow Palette is designed to look like Peggy Carter’s passport would actually have looked in the 1940’s, complete with her signature. It contains six shades with names that refer to people or things from the show like Leviathan, English, Midnight Oil, Zero Matter, Allies, and Dugan.
The Besame Agent Carter Collection will be launching this weekend (April 21-22) at the Dapper Day Expo at the Disneyland Resort in California. Starting April 23rd, it will be available online for purchase. 102 Sweet Dreams will be priced at $24, the Invisible Dusting Powder will be $35, and the Passport Shadow Passport will be $36.
Besame will also be giving away two special makeup cases to go along with the collection. One will be raffled off at Dapper Day, and the second will be put up for auction on eBay with the money going to charity. For any Agents attending Dapper Day, you will be able to purchase a Stetson Aviatrix, the iconic red hat worn by Carter. A few of the Field Agent Lip Kits have also been held back to sell at Dapper Day.
Besame has been teasing that there will be a special announcement Saturday morning. If you’re interested in knowing what it is, be sure to follow them on Instagram!
