Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment, in partnership with game publisher Com2uS, unveiled a first look at Summoners War: Legacy #3 from writer Justin Jordan (The Strange Talent of Luther Strode, Reaver) and artist Luca Claretti (Adventure Time Comics) with colors by Giovanna Niro (Star Trek: Nero) and lettering by Deron Bennett (Excellence, Assassin Nation). The battle for the land of Alea continues in June.

After last issue’s stunning turn of events, Abuus Dein faces off against rogue summoner Voss Ayers in a battle for the ages!

The Summoners War: Legacy comic series is the latest expansion to the Summoners War IP, along with upcoming mobile game Summoners War: Chronicles and recently released Summoners War: Lost Centuria. The variety of expansions is a testament to the game’s success and longevity which proves to be a major tentpole for Com2uS’ gaming portfolio.

Summoners War: Legacy takes place 35 years before the universe-shattering conflict at the original mobile game’s center. The comic series features fan-favorite monsters, explores the fate of Durand’s parents, and expands on the mystical land of Alea and its colorful characters including Abuus, Rai, and Tomas. Skybound Entertainment Launches Bloodstone – A First of its Kind
Arena Tabletop RPG

Today, Skybound Entertainment, home of The Walking Dead, Invincible, The Grim Forest and more, officially launched its highly-anticipated Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstone, a first of its kind PvP/PvE (Player vs Player / Player vs Environment) arena tabletop roleplaying game.

Created by Skybound Entertainment’s Senior Director of Tabletop Games, James Hudson, and available exclusively on Kickstarter, Bloodstone boasts eight playable characters with their own unique backstories and playstyles who are trapped in eternal combat and forced to fight to the death – then get up and do it again – all to the whims of a cruel tyrant who has been corrupted by the Bloodstone, an evil and powerful relic that enchants any who possess it. Utilizing a custom dice mechanism to determine your character’s attacks and movements (ranging from dealing straightforward damage towards enemies in the arena to banking dice for a later turn that can aid allies or beleaguer foes) Bloodstone allows for PvP bloodsport or coordinated PvE attacks against a common foe. 

Backing this 24-day Kickstarter-exclusive campaign is the only chance to experience the world of Bloodstone as games will be made to order with a very limited number available to purchase from Skybound following the campaign.

To accompany Bloodstone, Skybound is releasing a book tie-in that explores the lore behind the game, fully explaining how the dangerously powerful Bloodstone works and diving into the backstories of each combatant as well as how they become trapped in the deadly pit. In Bloodstone: Awakening, veteran game and fantasy author Ari Marmell (A Mick Oberon Job urban fantasy detective series, Widdershins Adventures YA series, The Goblin Corps) brings to life the characters from this soon-to-be-beloved tabletop game with vivid realism and intense combat for fans of sword-and-sorcery fantasy and tabletop gaming alike. The tie-in novel, published by Simon & Schuster, is set to release in Spring 2022, with the first five chapters available to Bloodstone Kickstarter backers.

Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment has announced that recent Humble Bundles have generated over $140K in proceeds to benefit the Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation, whose core program provides assistance to employees and shop owners who have a demonstrated financial need arising from severe hardship and/or emergency circumstances.

Over $35K was raised to benefit Traveling Stories, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that seeks to empower kids to outsmart poverty by helping them fall in love with reading by the fourth grade. In a joint Bundle with multiple other publishers, over $4M was raised to benefit Race Forward, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and The Bail Project charities to support the Black community during the Black Lives Matter movement.

The “The Walking Dead by Image Comics/Skybound Entertainment” Bundle, “Creator Spotlight on Jonathan Hickman”, and the currently running “Image Comics Showcase” Bundle purchases all contributed to the total amount so far raised for Binc Foundation.

The “Image Comics Showcase” Bundle is live now and, in fewer than 24 hours, is already on track to be the highest ordered Image Central Humble Bundle in the past five years. Its proceeds will go toward Binc Foundation too, as well as to The Hero Initiative.

For more than twenty years, the Binc Foundation has helped bookstore and comic book store employees and owners who encounter unexpected financial crises. The Binc Foundation works to keep book people in their homes, in their jobs, and with their families – stabilizing the brick and mortar bookstore community. The Foundation is the only 501(c)(3) in the country dedicated exclusively to strengthening the book industry by supporting the people who work in bookstores and comics shops.

The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book artists and craftsmen in need. Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for yesterday’s creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work.

The highly anticipated Fire Power #1 issue by Robert Kirkman and Chris Samnee on sale Wednesday, August 5, and priced at $3.99, will feature different cover art from the free promotional edition (formerly: Free Comic Book Day edition) of the comic. This issue of Image Comics/Skybound Entertainment‘s Fire Power #1, which features colors by Matthew Wilson and Rus Wooton, will also be extra length and feature additional backmatter not previously included in the promotional edition.

Fire Power #2 will also be available for sale on the same day.

Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment announced today an all-new, action-packed series by Shawn Kittelsen (Mortal Kombat 11) and Eric Zawadzki (The Dregs, Eternal) entitled Heart Attack. The duo has even brought in colorist Michael Garland (Black Monday Murders, Leviathan) for the series, which will launch this November.

“Way back in 2014, I had an idea for this series that was all about the future—a nightmare that America could become, if we weren’t careful. But in 2019, many of us are living that nightmare daily, in one headline after another—hatred, violence, injustice, disparity, disenfranchisement and more. So while this book is set in the future, it’s really about our world today. It’s about how people find love in hopeless times, and how our personal bonds inspire the courage to rise against forces bigger than ourselves,” said Kittelsen. “I’m super grateful to everyone at Skybound for the time and effort they’ve put into this series, and for giving me a platform to tell an unconventional sci-fi love story that’s more concerned with emotional arcs than action scenes. Shawn’s scripts have been challenging in specific ways that have forced me to grow as a storyteller and that’s been very exciting for me. There are certain sequences in this series that I can’t wait to show off. Michael’s colours really capture that vibrant, pop energy that the story requires. And more importantly, his work makes me look better than I actually am.”

Each issue of the head-banging action series features a variant cover that pays tribute to a different classic heavy metal album cover. Murder Falcon #6’s “Heavy Metal” variant cover, with art provided by acclaimed Redlands artist Vanesa R. Del Rey, homages Megadeth’s Rust in Peace. Eisner Award-winning artist Erica Henderson (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) provides the art for Murder Falcon #7’s “Heavy Metal” variant cover, which salutes Dio’s iconic debut album Holy Diver.

Two-time Eisner Award winner Erica Henderson (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Jughead) and Eisner-nominated writer Kyle Starks (Rick and Morty, Sexcastle) team up for the gut-busting, mega-violent action-comedy Assassin Nation this March from Image Comics/Skybound Entertainment.

“I’m so excited for this book,” said Henderson. “Kyle and I have been wanting to work together for as long as we’ve been friends. It’s great to finally make that happen. There aren’t a lot of comics with Kyle’s action and comedy sensibilities, so it’s just been a blast. On top of that, it’s nice to work in other genres. My professional career has been largely all-ages media so it’s been REALLY fun to get some gore and explosions in there too. Assassin Nation is great fun but NOT for the whole family.”

The World’s (Former) Greatest Hitman has a hit out on him. What to do? Why, hire the 20 best assassins in the world to be his bodyguards, of course. These mean-as-hell hired guns and murderers will have to work together to keep the new crime boss safe, figure out who’s trying to off him, and also… survive.

“Since I got into the comics industry, I’ve wanted to do two things: one, work with my dear friend Erica Henderson; and two, write a book with 20 hitmen being hired to be bodyguards to the world’s former best assassin,” said Starks. “Truly, two things I love more than nearly anything: my friendship with Erica and a barrel full of trained killers set loose on a thrilling adventure ride of murder, mystery, and mayhem.

“I’m super excited about Assassin Nation,” he added. “Erica and I made a ton of great characters and put them through a really fun story. I mean, look, we are both action movie super fans, and getting to make something together has been a true joy that I think will be passed on to the readers. It’s going to be an adrenaline thrill ride of violence and jokes, and we can’t wait for people to get their hands on it.”
