Learn to ‘Cosplay Like a Pro’ with Humble Bundle

While many of us are still staying at home, you might have an interest in either improving your cosplay game or getting started in anticipation of when conventions open up once again. If so, Humble Bundle has just the pack that you might be looking for. They’ve assembled their Humble Book Bundle: Cosplay Like a Pro bundle to help you either get started in making your own cosplays or leveling up your skills.

You can pay as little as $1, or as much as you want, with five different pay levels going up to $20 or more if you wish. If you buy the entire bundle, you can get 31 different books about cosplay, sewing, fabric, foamsmithing, wig styling, LEDs, cosplay photography, armor building, and much more! Some of the featured authors are Bill Doran of Punished Props, Svetlana Quindt of Kamui Cosplay, Steven Meissner of SoloRoboto Industries, and Mood Designer Fabrics.

That’s over $600 worth of books, and they are available in a variety of formats, so it’s bound to work with whatever e-reader you own. As with all Humble Bundles, the money goes directly to charity. The charities supported by this collection are The Hero Initiative and Book Industry Charitable Foundation.

The Hero Initiative “is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book artists and craftsmen in need. Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for yesterday’s creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.”

Book Industry Charitable Foundation “has helped bookstore and comic book store employees and owners who encounter unexpected financial crises. The Binc Foundation works to keep book people in their homes, in their jobs, and with their families – stabilizing the brick and mortar bookstore community. The Foundation is the only 501(c)(3) in the country dedicated exclusively to strengthening the book industry by supporting the people who work in bookstores and comics shops.”

Since the money goes directly to charity, anything you choose to pay over the minimum suggestion price is greatly appreciated. Also this collection is only available for a limited time, and will go away on June 17th.

Cosplay Photos: Yorkville Public Library Mini Golf FUN Raiser

This year was the Yorkville Public Library‘s 6th Annual Mini Golf FUN Raiser and Costumers with a Cause was invited to participate. This annual event is the main fundraiser for the library and all funds go to promoting the library programs.

They set up 18 holes of mini golf on both floors of the library. The course holes are sponsored by businesses and decorated either by that business or by a not-for-profit within the Yorkville Community.

The Merry Hearts Clowns were there making balloon animals.

Costumers with a Cause is a non-profit organization that works with children’s charity organizations and charity events to help promote community growth, unity, education, and hope for every child’s future. They have a national membership with branches across the United States.

Humble Bundle Offers a Wealth of Cosplay Treasures

Are you looking to up your cosplay game but aren’t sure where to start? Are you looking for resources to help your with your sewing, foamsmithing or propbuilding? Well, Humble Bundle has just the thing for you!

If you don’t know what Humble Bundle is, here is how they describe themselves on their website:

Humble Bundle is a distribution platform selling games, ebooks, software, and other digital content. Since Humble’s founding in 2010, our mission has been to support charity (“Humble”) while providing awesome content to customers at great prices (“Bundle”). We started by offering only game bundles, but have branched out to include an online storefront, a monthly subscription service, a publishing initiative, and lots more. Essentially, they provide a collection of selected content for a great value while also raising money for charities at the same time. You can pay as much or as little as you like, but the more that you pay, the more you get.

Currently, Humble Bundle is offering a bundle of cosplay books called “Humble Book Bundle: Cosplay 2.0”. They have generated a collection of books from the likes of Svetlana Quindt of Kamui Cosplay, Bill Doran of Punished Props,  Adam Savage, Mood Fabrics, and many more.

The ebooks available touch on subjects such a basic sewing, cosplay and costume sewing, fabric selection, prop making, making costume armor, moldmaking, body paint, electronics, 3D printing, and much more! In total, there are nearly 20 books available. If you purchase all the books, that’s a $240 value for as little as $15. There are three price tiers available starting at as little as $1. The charity that this bundle supports is Doctors Without Borders. It is an international humanitarian medical non-governmental organization that is most known for working in conflict zones. As the money goes to charity, any extra money you would like to give above the $15 is greatly appreciated. The bottom of the page list the bundle’s top contributors, as well as how much money has been raised so far.

Manny Print for Lake Count-i-Con

As many of you know Manny Popoca, our founder, tragically passed away and Lake Count-i-Con has dedicated this year’s convention to his memory.

PopCultHQ will have a booth at Lake Count-i- Con with their own fundraiser where they will be selling signed prints and other merchandise with all of the proceeds going directly to Manny’s wife and children.13912599_778211722281697_1757209655208187768_n

Ryan Grandinetti has graciously donated five signed copies of his tribute artwork. These are beautiful pieces printed on high quality artist paper and would look fantastic on any wall.

We have decided to make one of these pieces available for PopCultHQ and Manny Popoca fans and have listed it on an eBay Auction.
