Well, we have made it to the 12^th Edition of this Weirdness. Ready for a little more?

Sticking with last edition’s theme, here are a couple of items poking a little fun at two more of my co-players with a couple of fun items.

Please use these items with the humor intended in their creation. It will also show you that a little imagination in a weird mind can be dangerous.

Imeni’s Picture Book of Puzzles

Puzzle Book (very rare item): wondrous item causes enthralled.

This book appears as a toddler’s board book. (Those thick paged books meant for toddlers who would be apt to put things in their mouth. Not that Imeni wouldn’t try doing that as well.) The book’s pages are made of thin wood about an 1/8” thick measuring 6” by 6”.  The pages contain pictograms that appear to have been drawn by a 6-year-old child. But, if that is not strange enough, the book is magic and anyone gazing upon its pages are enthralled with the puzzle and can’t look away until they solve the puzzle they are looking at. To solve the puzzle, the onlooker is required to make a savings throw versus intelligence at disadvantage, due to the whole oddness of the puzzles that lie within. Just figuring out what is scrawled on the page is the first challenge. Then there is the issue of trying to figure how putting them together adds up to anything.

The book contains 12 puzzles and once an onlooker solves a puzzle, the same puzzle will not work on them again but others in the book may. The onlooker, once laying eyes upon a puzzle, can’t take their eyes off of it unless they make their savings throw, which is not allowed to be done until their initiative turn.

Chance’s Bag of Oblivion

Adventuring Gear (one of a kind): Wondrous item cursed.

This bag appears to be a bag of holding but unlike a proper bag of holding, it was once in the hands of Chance the Hapless Bard. Chance’s luck isn’t the best and somehow while in his possession, the bag’s magic has taken a weird turn causing the item to be cursed.

When anything is placed into the bag, the magic takes hold of it and twists it into random corpse parts from random creatures. This effect will go unnoticed by the possessor of the bag until they try to retrieve the item they placed into the bag. (See random table below for retrieval results). The other strange twist of this cursed item is every 5^th item placed in the bag has a 33% chance of causing the bag to implode, creating a tiny momentary black hole which sucks in anything weighing less than 50 lbs, that is not tied or fastened down in some manner. The tiny black hole only lasts 9 seconds and can only effect things within 5 feet.

Here we are back at it again for the 11^th week after a short break due to Dragon Con coverage. Yes Reptile wears many hats.

Without further delay this week I bring you a couple of items custom made and named after two of the characters I have been honored to play along side for the last year.

Bron’s Folding Forge

Forge (Very rare item)

Are you a forge cleric? Do you hate having to find a way to lug around your forge? Bag of holding getting full and you just need a little more room? Well this item is for you.

It’s a full sized sturdy forge with a built-in anvil. The forge is imbued with magic. It heats, cools, unfolds and folds upon the spoken command words. When not in use the forge folds into itself to the size of a common lunch box and due to it’s magic only weighs 4 lbs. Additional bonus of Bron’s Folding Forge is once a day it can magically provide enough raw material to forge a weapon of medium size.

Major Able’s Smoking Pipe

Halfling Pipe (Rare item)

Are you a Halfling; do you enjoy a nice relaxing pipe even if you are not a Halfling? This nicely curved handcrafted pipe is for you. Oh, do you occasionally find yourself in a jam and need a quick way out? Then you really want this wondrous pipe.

The pipe makes everything smoked taste like the finest tobaccos ever grown, but the enchantments don’t end there.

Once per long rest the pipe can produce a 20′ x20′ cube of smoke so thick that it equals the Fog Cloud Spell cast at 2^nd level.

Once per long rest the pipe can produce a smoke portal that equals the Misty Step spell at 2x the distance of misty step.

Once per week the Smoke Portal can be used as a Teleport spell to carry the user and 8 others to a known destination.

Lastly the smoke from the pipe can be used to revive a fallen ally with the Breath of Life. Using this ability requires the user to take a long draw from the pipe then breath the smoke into the mouth of the fallen ally as long as the one being healed has not reached negative hit points to the point of true death. The smoke will revive the ally to consciousness plus 2D10 points of healing. This effect can also only be used once a week.

Welcome to the 10^th edition of Weird Home Brew.

It’s been 10 weeks already; how time flies when you are adventuring. I hope you have enjoyed and had some use for the last 9 editions in your home games because were about to throw a couple more things out there for you.

This week I bring you the other half of the thieves dagger pair and an NPC of note.

Coin Stealer

Dagger (Rare item) +2 weapon

This dagger seems of little note except for it’s sturdy looking nature. It is adorned with a simple coin shaped pommel, plain wooden grip and a simple brass cross bar. The blade is triangular in shape and fairly broad at it’s base. When detect magic is used on it, it gives off a faint blue aura.

The dagger is a +2 dagger when used as a weapon but grants a +4 bonus on stealth and slight of hand checks as long as the owner has but a hand the weapon. Making it the perfect dagger for thieves and cut purses.

Ella Noteworthy

NPC Tinker Gnome Bard (4^th Level)

Str: 14 (+2)  Dex: 17 (+3)  Con: 13 (+1)  Int: 13 (+1)  Wis: 9 (-1)  Chr: 16 (+3)

Dark vision 60 feet, Speed 25,  Alignment C/N

Ella’s appearance is pale in completion for a Gnome to the point some may think her ill, but that is her skin tone and she is quite healthy.  She has an inquisitive personality and though she may be lacking in wisdom she is lucky, very lucky thus gaining a +2 on any luck rolls.

 She stands a confident 3′ 7” and weighs mere 36 lbs. Dressed in green and gold leather armor with a thick shiny gold chain draped around her neck and a long dagger +1 in a sheath tucked under her left arm.

Around her waist is a leather belt with small well polished metal boxes hanging from it, that seems to go all the way around the belt. (They are Music boxes. The source of her music for her spells) When she speaks she tends to use big words and flowery almost poetic like speech but at times she can be full of bluster.

She is charitable by nature, a romantic at heart but looking for redemption for misdeeds of her past. Her greatest weakness is heights. She has an intense fear of heights causing her to picture herself falling from them if having to face that situation. Being a Gnome she is gifted with Gnome Cunning which gives her an advantage on all savings throws verses Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma and Magic.

Welcome to the 9^th edition of Weird Home Brews.

Nine editions in and still dishing up the weird stuff for you Dungeon Masters so you can add some colorful, weird content to your games.

This week, we bring you a bloody, sharp pointy and a bit of a life preserver, in a way.

Blood Tear

Dagger (Very Rare Item) +2 and Bleeding Damage

This ornate dagger has a rosewood grip, rose-colored copper fittings, and is decorated with vines and red rose buds on its wickedly curved blade. The dagger is exceedingly sharp and can even pierce platemail armor. The dagger will always hold a keen edge no matter how much abuse the wielder puts it through.

It gets the name of Blood Tear for its shape and its vicious habit of bleeding its victims. When used in a successful attack, the dagger will cause an additional 2D6 of slashing damage over the normal dagger damage, causing the wound to continue to bleed at a rate of 2D4 points per round until the wound is healed or bound.

Bracer of Reincarnation

Bracer (Very Rare item requires attunement) One time use.

These bracers are made of fine quality leather and decorated in hand-tooled symbols, glyphs, and silver images.

They can be worn by any class, race, or size. Their magic will cause them to adapt to fit any wearer as if it was custom made for them. This item can only be used once and after its use, the magic is lost and they become just a normal bracer of high quality.

Use:  5 minutes after the wearer’s death, the magic of the bracer will flow through their body, lifting them slightly off the ground, as they begin to glow with an eerie light. The wearer will wake fully-healed as the magic fades, but in a changed form. The wearer will have all of their memories, skills, and abilities that they had before, along with any new abilities associated with their new form.
