There is an all-star cast for the highly anticipated Suicide Squad which isn’t due out until August 2016. Director David Ayer will begin shooting, in Toronto, in April. This, hopefully, iconic film will be produced by Charles Roven (Dark Knight franchise) and Richard Suckle (American Hustle).

David Ayer doesn’t have a long history of directing, he tends more towards writing such hits as Fast and Furious and Training Day. Ayer was also part of the writing team for Suicide Squad. Coming to directing from writing may work to the fans benefit as he has an intimate view inside the writers heads when it comes to the scenes.

A statement released by Warner Bros. President Greg Silverman stated, “The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one, we look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

For those that don’t know who the Suicide Squad is; they are a team of super villains who have been given a chance to join a secret government agency that carries out dangerous black-ops missions in exchange for clemency.

So far the the main characters cast include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Jai Courtney as Boomerang. Viola Davis plays the commander, Amanda Waller, and Joel Kinnaman will be the squad leader Rick Flagg. It has also been rumored that Jessie Eisenberg will be playing Lex Luthor.

The newest confirmed addition to the Suicide Quad cast is Jay Hernandez. He has a long resume of movies and TV series appearances, most of which I have never heard of. His most notable role seems to be Brian Chavez from Friday Night Lights. The interesting part, however, is that they have not named a character for him. They have also not told us who the Suicide Squad will be up against, so I am assuming his role will be a pivotal part of the opposing force.

In the comics the Suicide Squad has come up against a variety of forces most notably Darkseid, Manhunter Cult, and Kobra. Could Jay Hernandez be Kobra?

There are a lot of questions about what the storyline will be. I also wonder how closely the movie will be tied to the Arrow TV world as back in July 2014 it was indicated that Arrow producers were looking to do a spin off series of the Suicide Squad.
