Netflix recently signed an agreement with Ubisoft to bring Assassin’s Creed to the popular streaming service.
Assassin’s Creed debuted in 2007 and has since had numerous sequels. This is a popular gaming franchise with a whole world to explore. The series is based around a battle for free-will and control between the Assassins and the Templars as they use various methods to access the memories of Assassins from different time periods to track down powerful artifacts called Pieces of Eden.
“We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that ‘Assassin’s Creed’ is beloved for,” said Peter Friedlander, vice president of original series at Netflix. “From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”
There was a film adaptation, starring Michael Fassbender, in 2016, but the series was not well-received. There have also been some short films, Assassin’s Creed: Lineage (live-action), Assassin’s Creed: Ascendance (animated), and Assassin’s Creed: Embers (animated).
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the latest game in the long-running franchise, is out on November 10 for Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Stadia; for PlayStation 5 on November 12; and for Amazon Luna when the Ubisoft channel launches.
