[Spoiler-Free Review] ‘The Witcher’: Season Two on Netflix

It took two years, but ‘The Witcher‘ finally returned to Netflix with a whole new season. The disjointed multiple timelines are gone, as are the infamous grunts and frequent “Fuck” by Geralt. The one element I miss is Jaskier’s annoying enthusiasm and his ‘toss a coin to your witcher’ song elements.

They expand the rich world of The Witcher bringing in more depth and background to individuals and cultures, as well as introducing thrilling new monsters. It does get a bit confusing about where they are coming from and why, but it (weakly) clears up some of that towards the end of the season.

The new season still follows multiple storylines, but they are all on the same relative timeline. They’ve brought back our favorites such as Geralt (Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan), Yennifer (Anya Chalotra) and even our favorite bard Jaskier (Joey Batey).

The main focus of this season is the growth of Ciri, which also demonstrates some growth on the part of Geralt. This also means that Cavill’s character seems totally different than the one you met in season one; there is another side that we didn’t see before.

The main take away is this: if you enjoyed season one, you will enjoy season two. It’s a thrilling piece of episodic, high-fantasy that has a little bit of everything for everyone.

The Witcher is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels which spawned a popular gaming franchise.
