Slave Leia is a Badass!! So Says Carrie Fisher in Epic Response to Toy Controversy.

Carrie Fisher the famous actress known for portraying Princess Leia in the original Star Wars Trilogy, has had enough of people downplaying the validity of her character just based off of a costume. If you have been keeping tabs of pop culture rumors, you may have heard the whispers that Disney, the new owners of  the Star Wars franchise are considering phasing out any merchandise that would include the iconic slave Leia outfit. Mind you, these have only been rumors.

But when finally confronted by question on her feeling of such “controversy,” her reply could not have been any more accurate and downright Carrie Fisher-esque.

response she gave to the Wall Street Journal:

There’s been some debate recently about whether there should be no more merchandise with you in the “Return of the Jedi” bikini.

Carrie Fisher: I think that’s stupid.

To stop making the merchandise?

Carrie Fisher: The father who flipped out about it, “What am I going to tell my kid about why she’s in that outfit?” Tell them that a giant slug captured me and forced me to wear that stupid outfit, and then I killed him because I didn’t like it. And then I took it off. Backstage.

Yeah, empowered Hutt-slaying Leia! But Fisher had a far testier response when it came to a similar question over at the L.A. Times:

Carrie Fisher: How about telling his daughter that the character is wearing that outfit not because she’s chosen to wear it. She’s been forced to wear it. She’s a prisoner of a giant t*sticle who has a lot of saliva going on and she does not want to wear that thing and it’s ultimately that chain, which you’re now indicating is some sort of accessory to S&M, that is used to kill the giant saliva t*sticle…. That’s asinine.

For me, the whole scene of Leia being imprisoned by some vile beast, who was also the gangster kingpin in this little hole in the galaxy, was a brilliant showing of a woman being a hero and taking back her freedom. Especially after having to be so ridiculed by the barbaric thinking Jabba.

Carrie Fisher has always said it best from the start and still to this day. If you don’t tell the full story of how Leia was made into just another slave of Jabba’s but only to gain the courage to fight her despicable captor. Not only fight back….but to kill the monster. It was true galactic justice. Just because we have flying ships, this is still the wild barren lawless lands of Tatooine.  So if you are just fixated on the costume itself, then it is just you yourself that is being dishonest to the story, its lessons and true empowerment of women.
