#SDCC2017: AMC Kicks Off Comic-Con International Early, Announces TWD Season Eight Premiere Date

Season seven of AMC’s The Walking Dead had a lot of people talking…and not in the best of ways. After a smashing season opener, the series became weekly focuses on individual characters with not as much plot development. Some of the decisions made by the studio were met with chagrin and fans questioned some moves (especially Eugene’s new role). Regardless, fans are chomping at the bit for what this next season will bring and hopefully deliver. Being the Preview Day at Comic-Con International, the cable network used this opportunity to get fans reinvigorated.

Season eight will make its debut on Sunday, October 22nd. No word yet as to whether the premiere episode will be extended to 90 minutes or possibly two hours. The episode will be monumental in not only beginning an eighth season, but it is the series’ 100th episode so they’ll likely make this a big opener (a la season seven premiere).

The Walking Dead‘s new promotional art features Rick Grimes and Negan facing off, while the newly combined group advance on The Sanctuary. At this ear’s Comic-Con International San Diego, The Walking Dead will be featured in a panel in the famous Hall H on Friday, July 21st. The Walking Dead panel will feature stars Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Seth Gilliam, Alanna Masterson, Khary Payton and Chandler Riggs, and they will be joined by EPs Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert as well as showrunner Scott Gimple and creator Robert Kirkman.
