PopCultHQ had the privilege in attending Comic Con International: San Diego 2022 (SDCC). After last November’s SDCC Special Edition, the 50+ year convention returned to their late July slot not held since 2019’s event. This year marks the return of SDCC in full-force, running July 21st- 24th, 2022, plus the Wednesday Preview Night on the 20th.
Generally, when I attend & cover a comic convention for PopCultHQ, the majority of my time spent is connecting with comic creators/publishers, conducting interviews on-site, and making connections with people seeking to establish more press for their project(s) or company. This being SDCC, as well as being fortunate to receive a press pass from Comic-Con International, I realized it was time to up my convention game. In addition to making connections with individuals and businesses appearing at this year’s event who are outside of the comic book industry, I was determined to take more pictures of the cosplayers in attendance. When I have taken cosplay pics at cons, it was always just a small handful of shots. Using the camera from my phone, I was never happy with the resulting images – not always in focus, not the best quality, and not on a level cosplayers deserve.
So for #SDCC2022, I reached out to the awesome team at InMotionPro, a full-service photo and cinema production company in Bakersfield, CA. On my drive down from South Lake Tahoe to San Diego, I took a small detour in Southern California and swung by their Bakersfield office to pick up a Sony DSLR camera (with carrying bag and backup battery). I was immediately impressed by the difference and improvement in quality over anything I have used before. After using the camera (for pictures & video footage), I plan on being a repeat customer of theirs in any future show in the region.
