For any kid that grew up wishing they could be a superhero, Shazam! might be a dream come true for you. The first trailer for next year’s Shazam! premiered yesterday at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2018, and I have to say that it is quite delightful!
The movie tells the story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who is given powers by a wizard (Djimon Hounsou) that transform him into the fully-grown superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi) when he says that same word.
The trailer is fairly light on the plot of the movie, apart from giving us Billy’s backstory and showing him as he discovers his powers with fellow foster kid Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer). It is very light in tone, giving hope to some that, between this and Aquaman, the DCEU might be heading in a lighter direction after many of the films preceding it.
Shazam! will premiere in theaters in April 2019.
