PopCultHQ’s First Look – Season Two of “Mr. Robot” on USA Network

*Minor spoilers re: season one* Last year’s huge hit drama Mr. Robot is preparing for its second season and the wait is unbearable! The 2015 Golden Globe Award winner for Best Television Series – Drama is looking to ramp things up next season. As production is currently underway in New York City, creator/executive producer Sam Esmail spoke on the upcoming season and the relationship between Elliott Alderson (Rami Malek) and Mr. Robot (Christian Slater)

Now that Elliot is aware [of the truth about Mr. Robot], that has opened the door. We’re literally externalizing Elliot’s mentality and his inner conflict, Mr. Robot being the other half of Elliot,” Esmail stated. “In the first season, because Elliot wasn’t aware, there was a mystery about who Mr. Robot was and what his real motivations were. Now we know, so what does that mean? What does Elliot really want?

Upon learning that Mr. Robot happens to be the projection of Elliott’s deceased father, it appears that the second season will expand and deepen the dichotomy which is their relationship. But Email assures us that relationship is pivotal in the progression and evolving of the story.

What you’ve got to understand is that when Mr. Robot and Elliot go at it, he’s really going at it with himself,” Esmail proclaims. “What I can say is that they’re communicating, but it’s almost under duress. Obviously, Elliot can’t escape him, and Mr. Robot doesn’t want to leave. It’s a conflict, but it’s actually more of an impasse that they somehow have to negotiate.

Since filming just began on March 7th, it has yet to be announced when we can expect a premiere date for season two. But according to Esmail it will be worth the wait. “I can comfortably say that season 2 is very different from season 1.”

Synopsis for Mr. Robot courtesy of USA Network:

MR. ROBOT follows Elliot (Rami Malek, “The Pacific”), a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night.  Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader (Christian Slater, “The Adderall Diaries”) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect.  Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world.  The series also stars Portia Doubleday (“Her”), Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”) and Martin Wallström (“Simple Simon”).
