PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
KINGSMAN: THE RED DIAMOND #1
Writing:
Rob Williams is well-known to comics readers, so taking over Kingsman means that its only going to be just as amazing the second time around as it was the first. Rob brings his writing experience into the world of secret agents and British spycraft and sets up a plot worthy of a summer blockbuster.
Art:
Simon Fraser’s art is solid stuff. His line-work is solid and isn’t flat, there’s a three dimensional quality to it that gives extra life to the script written by Rob Williams for this thrilling sequel spy series. Both of them work well and there’s clear sense that Red Diamond is going be a great story for everyone.
Gary Caldwell as colorist is a choice of quality for a world and story like Kingsman: Red Diamond. Caldwell takes the work seriously and he shows that by the decisions made for things like skin tone, coloring for environment, action shots, etc. Returning Kingsman fans will tell that, like Williams and Fraser, he takes this story seriously.
Peter Doherty already has high fame and acclaim for working on Judge Dredd in 2000 AD, which means the same high level of professionalism is being brought over to Kingsman: The Red Diamond. Readers should be prepared for lots of bright dialogue mixed in to the usual jargon of spy work, which will mean a fantastic read all around.
PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:
The bright boys at Kingsman are back in Kingsman: The Red Diamond, so grab some spy gear, cue up an intense theme song and get down with saving the world once more. There’s a villain to be thwarted, humanity to save and lots of choice story, art, colors and dialogue to be had in this first issue. So make no mistake, this is going to be one spy story to not be missed!
PopCultHQ’s Rating:
5 Out of 5 Stars
