PopcultHQ Explores Upcoming Movie Sequels – Part 2

sequels part 2And we continue to look at upcoming sequels excluding the ones for this year and the DCU and MCU movies. Click here to read part 1.

The Brazilian Job

A sequel to The Italian Job, it features Charlie Croker and his crew of thieves in Rio de Janeiro to pull off another heist. We have a script and storyline, but no cast or release date.

Bridget Jones’s Baby

This time we follow Bridget Jones as she enters her 40s. From there we don’t know much except that it is still in development and supposed to start filming this fall.

Bruce Almighty Sequel

Another film in development, however this one has been in the development stage since 2012.

Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires

Not really a sequel, this is a prequel to Bubba Ho-Tep. The script is apparently written, but as Bruce Campbell doesn’t plan to return to the role of Elvis, I find it highly unlikely that this film will ever see the light of day.

Cars 3

There isn’t much on this, I’m sure Disney would love a sequel just so they have yet another movie that they can make money off of, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a straight to video release.Cars

Cheech And Chong

A project was announced in 2014, but there hasn’t been a lot of news since then.

Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair

The next Narnia film was scheduled to hit theaters in 2016, but we didn’t hear anything on it until June 6th when writer David Magee told the world that the script was finished. I guess that means that the film will be pushed back until at least 2017.

The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist

Not much on this except for a name and a due date of October 30th, 2016.

Clerks III

Kevin Smith has this one in his queue with plans for its release August 1, 2016. However with films like Mallrats 2 currently on his plate, it will probably not even be filmed until 2016.

The Croods 2

The sequel to the popular DreamWorks film is coming out December 2017. Directors Chris Sanders and Kirk De Micco are returning, as are Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone.croods

Despicable Me 3

It’s due in cinemas in June 2017, other than that we don’t have a clue what to expect except Gru and his minions.

District 10

Neill Blomkamp might have other things on his plate currently, but he still wants to do District 10. At this point it is just a dream, but we can keep our eyes open for mention of it.

Enchanted 2

It has taken a few years, but Disney is finally doing a sequel to this charming film. In July of 2014 Disney had hired screenwriters J. David Stem and David N. Weiss to write the script and Anne Fletcher director.

The Equalizer 2

This sequel to the 2014 film is confirmed with a September 2016 release date. Denzel Washington is expected to return in the lead role, while the remaining cast remains an unknown factor.

The Expendables 4

Apparently Sly just can’t get enough of himself and has at least two more sequels lined up for his geriatric crew. So far names such as Hulk Hogan, Pierce Bronson, Salman Khan and Jason Statham are associated with the newest films, but no one has been signed.

Furious 8

Set for July 2017, we know that Vin Diesel and Jason Statham are set to return for the film, but they haven’t found a new director yet, as James Wan is busy with a slew of other films including Aquaman and Robotech.furious

Fifty Shades Darker

This sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey and the third planned movie (Fifty Shades Freed) are already in the plans for 2017 and 2018. The plan is for the actors to return to their lead roles, however the script being written and they have lost their director. It will be interesting to see what direction the sequels go.

Finding Dory

This sequel to Finding Nemo is a go for next June. This has been a long time coming, but Director Andrew Stanton managed to pull together most of the original crew from Finding Nemo. He even managed to get Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks back for voices.

Flash Gordon 2

Earlier this year Sam J. Jones revealed plans to bring the much loved 80’s film back with a potential sequel. We don’t know a lot about it yet except that Fox has the rights and that John Davis is set as the producer.

Frozen 2

Before it even left theaters we knew that Disney was going to be producing another sequel. Jennifer Lee is working on a script and both she and Chris Buck will direct Frozen 2. Peter del Vecho will produce it again. If they do this properly I don’t think we will be seeing it until at least 2018.

Ghostbusters

Dan Akroyd has written it and the cast has been listed. This all-female ghost busting crew is set to hit theaters July 22, 2016.

Stay tuned for Part 3 of our Upcoming Sequels series
