Writer JOE HARRIS (The X-Files) and artist MARTÍN MORAZZO (Vertigo Quarterly), creators of GREAT PACIFIC, reunite for a brand new science fiction series. In the year 2045, it no longer snows following a crash that left the climate ravaged, society splintered, and the newly christened “Cooperative States of America” propped up and administered by the powerful Hazeltyne Corporation. Only one man wages an all-out weather war against the system, wielding the forces of nature themselves as weapons. He’s the White Wizard. The Ghost in the Night. Genius. Terrorist. Outlaw. Hero?
PopCultHQ’s Comic Book Review:
Snowfall TPB
Joe Harris’ writing is what one would describe as a mix of post-apocalyptic meets pseudo-superhero. The world he’s created is what can only be described as different from other comics out there involving persons with unique abilities fighting for what’s right. Fans of Joe’s other Image Comics series ‘Great Pacific’ will enjoy ‘Snowfall’ just as much, if not more.
Art:
Martin Morazzo’s art and cover for the TPB are pure comic book wonderment. His layouts are spectacular and the art will keep gripping readers as they delve into the story that is laid out before their eyes. His previous work with Joe Harris on ‘Great Pacific’ makes their working together on the ‘Snowfall’ another great example of writers and artists who can come together as a team and produce amazing comics.
Kelly Fitzpatrick’s colors bring life to Martin’s art. There is a lot of white of course, but the other colors themselves, the uniforms of the soldiers, the White Wizard’s costume and powers in action, even the colors chosen to show the desolate world of the future, all of it is chosen carefully and with consideration to the story and art.
Michael David Thomas’ lettering has variety and puts his own stamp on the ‘Snowfall’ story. Previous work with Joe Harris and Martin Morazzo on ‘Great Pacific’ shows that Michael is a person who knows his stuff. The lettering for each character (even supporting figures) makes each and every one of them stand out.
PopCultHQ’s overall assessment:
If anyone has ever had lingering questions about the classic apocalypse of “what would happen to Earth due to climate change,” then this graphic novel is for them. It brings a very harsh world into focus, a world of desolate climate, corporate greed, and one man who will do whatever it takes to bring back snow to Planet Earth. Joe Harris, Martin Morazzo, Kelly Fitzpatrick and Michael David Thomas are a fantastic team to tell this strange and frosty tale. If there’s one thing that can be said about this TPB, it’s that it is very, very cool and will have readers scrambling for their jackets, hats, and warm clothes.
