IR1

The Story So Far
… after being given a second chance at life by Lucifer, Mercy Dante is tasked with hunting down demons who’ve escaped from hell and sending them back to where they belong. as Mercy continues to acclimate to a life with no chance of salvation, she finds herself inclined to help an innocent woman in need of her particular set of skills. Meanwhile, a man who feeds on the weaknesses of others stalks his latest victim and little does Mercy know, she’s on a collision course with an evil more powerful than she’s ever faced.

IR2Previously in Inferno: Resurrection
… Soon after saving Ana and Brad from Raum’s henchmen, Mercy is called on when Brad once again goes missing. But after successfully infiltrating Raum’s underground casino, Mercy is quickly ambushed and taken elsewhere to be tortured for information. luckily, Masumi and a stranger from the casino arrive in time to help Mercy escape unscathed.

Inferno: Resurrection has an appealing premise and a great cadre of characters. Not only does the lead, Mercy Dante, bring an alluring backstory, but the supporting cast are intriguing themselves. I really like where writer Ralph Tedesco is taking this story. He does an excellent job at capturing Mercy’s struggles with the demons of her past and her flashbacks. I’m excited as to what he has in store for upcoming issues. And that ending… whoa! <need more, need more!>

IR3Artist Antonio Bifulco gives the characters a good look for this tpye of story. He really has a gift in understanding depth and foreshadowing. I especially took notice to his detail and apparent hard work in creating a mesmerizing Lucifer and hell is brilliantly colored by Arciniega.

Many times when describing the artwork in a comic book I review I’ll mention various aspects of the colors and also point out when someone is adept with shading. In this series, it’s not so much the shading that grabs your eye but rather the opposite (I suppose). Colorist Erick Arciniega has taken Bifulco’s sketchings and, besides the sweet use of colors, shows high proficiency with his knowledge and understanding of light sources. Arciniega knows what and where the light is coming from and uses that to produce a beautifully dichotomy between shading and highlights.

These next two issues should skyrocket in its narrative, culminating in what could be a potential mindblown ending. Limiting this series to five issues has to be difficult because there is so much you could do with the characters, their background, future encounters/battles, and growth possibilities. I’ll be watching for issue four especially since I have a feeling Tedesco is going to present us with more shock and awe than even the end of this issue.

PopCultHQ’s Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

PCHQ 4<Editor’s note: Though given a 4-star rating, certainly a solid output, this title is on track to easily garner a 4.5 or 5 star rating within the next issue or two given the momentum of the story leading to a climactic finale>

<Editor’s note #2: That Variant Cover “C” by Deacon Black? Damn.>
